Job summary

Dennis Group in Salt Lake City, UT seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join our team focused on designing and implementing HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems for food and beverage facilities.

You will perform load calculations, develop P&ID’s and system layouts, coordinate with internal and external teams, and contribute to construction documents and field support. Entry-level candidates with FE/EIT preferred and strong technical writing are welcome.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 0–3 years of experience or schooling in heat transfer, fluids, and thermodynamics.
• 0–3 years in HVAC/plumbing/design and specs.
• FE/EIT preferred; strong technical writing skills.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
• Develop HVAC, plant utility, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
• Develop P&ID’s, equipment layout plans and system details.
• Support mechanical design development and coordination with teams.
• Create project documents including calculations, reports, and drawings.

About The Job

We are seeking talented individuals to aid in the design and implementation of mechanical systems as part of a broad engineering and architectural team in designing and building food and beverage production facilities, specifically HVAC, plumbing / utility, and fire suppression systems. You will be a member of our mechanical department and your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Perform heating and cooling load calculations
• Perform mass energy balance calculations
• Perform drainage and line loss calculation
• Developing HVAC, plant utility, plumbing, and fire suppression systems
• Assist in mechanical system design development and coordinating with other internal and external team members
• Developing Mechanical / Utility equipment and construction specifications
• Developing P&ID’s, equipment layout plans, plant / process utility distribution plans, and system details
• Sizing and developing layouts for ductwork and piping plans
• Assisting with the development of the building management system (BMS) controls, details, and plans with electrical and controls engineers
• Creating project documents such as calculations, reports, and construction drawings and specifications, etc.
• Performing construction administration in the form of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field visits to verify construction scope is proceeding per the intent of the design
• Researching mechanical / utility materials and best practices
• Supporting talent growth within our organization

About You

• 0-3 years of work experience or schooling in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics
• 0-3 years of work experience or schooling with HVAC/plumbing/fire protection designs and specifications.
• 0-3 years of work experience or schooling performing calculations in areas of energy, drainage, line loss, etc.
• Basic report writing and communication skills
• Relevant internship(s) in an industrial manufacturing setting preferred
• FE/EIT certificate preferred
• Strong technical writing skills
• AutoCAD and Revit design ability preferred
• Travel to customer project sites for review, audit, and meetings, estimated 10-25%
