Job summary

MSA Safety is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the global Value Engineering & Cost Optimization team. In this highly visible role, you will combine mechanical design expertise, value engineering, and cross-functional execution to reduce product cost while maintaining safety, quality, and performance.

You will work across product lines, collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Quality, and leadership, and track savings with validated results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Hands-on mechanical product design using 3D CAD.
• Experience with plastics, materials, manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of FEA, tolerance analysis, validation methods.
• Strong analytical and project management skills.
• Ability to collaborate across functions.

Responsibilities

• Support VA/VE workshops and design-to-cost activities.
• Identify cost-reduction opportunities across products.
• Create concepts using CAD, FEA, fatigue analysis, and testing.
• Develop drawings, BOM updates, analyses, test plans, and ECRs.
• Coordinate prototypes, testing, and implementation.
• Lead cross-functional cost optimization projects and report results.
• Document savings and technical outcomes.
