Job summary

SpaceX seeks a Mechanical Engineer for the Crew Starship team to design and build critical spacecraft systems. You will own hardware from concept to production, including structures, mechanisms, and crew interfacing hardware.

Responsibilities include hand calculations, FEA, rapid iteration, and leading design reviews with NASA and suppliers. Expect long hours, travel, and a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • 1+ years of mechanical design and analysis experience (internships/ECs qualify).
  • Experience with structures and mechanisms in aerospace or aviation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own design, analysis, and manufacturing of structures and mechanisms for Starship vehicles.
  • Perform hand calculations and FEA to develop and optimize designs.
  • Iterate manufacturing processes and testing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure hardware integrates with systems.
  • Lead design reviews with suppliers and customers (e.g., NASA).
  • Conduct trade studies to optimize cost, schedule, safety, and performance.
  • Manage project delivery from design through production, launch, and recovery.
