Job summary

PACCAR Inc is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the development of an ADAS Level 4 Autonomous Vehicle Platform for an autonomous-enabled truck. You will drive concept development, design validation, and production launch, coordinating with Embedded software, PACCAR Innovation Center, and PACCAR Technical Center, as well as cross-functional teams.

Requirements include a BS in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years of experience, and CREO/Windchill proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with CREO/CREO View/Windchill or equivalent CAD tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of ADAS Level 4 Autonomous Vehicle Platform (AVP) systems from definition to launch.
  • Develop mechanical concepts to meet platform requirements and verify with analytics.
  • Use DFMEA and DVP tools to mitigate design risks across concept, design and validation.
  • Create and maintain project schedules and mitigation plans to meet milestones.
  • Manage relationships with autonomous partner and suppliers for smooth information flow.

Requisition Summary

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with interest in developing the systems required to launch an Autonomous Enabled Truck including new designs for Outer Body and Interior Trim Elements, Mechanical Structures, and Electrical Power Distribution.

Scope of work includes concept development, final design development, validation planning, testing support and launching product into production.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of ADAS Level 4 Autonomous Vehicle Platform (AVP) systems through the entire product development process from Project Definition to Product Launch.
  • Develop mechanical system concepts to meet vehicle platform requirements and utilize analytical tools to verify a robust design.
  • Utilize DFMEA and DVP tools to mitigate system design risk throughout the concept, design, and validation phases of the program.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date project schedules and develop mitigation plans as needed to meet program milestones.
  • Effectively manage relationships with the autonomous partner and suppliers to ensure information flows smoothly and issues are proactively addressed.
  • Coordinate regularly during the development process with other PACCAR engineering teams including Embedded software engineering, PACCAR Innovation Center (PIC), and PACCAR Technical Center (PTC).
  • Coordinate regularly during the development process with cross-functional groups including Product Planning, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and PACCAR Parts.
  • Act in a professional manner in all contacts with external and internal customers.
  • Up to 15% travel may be required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with CREO / CREO View / Windchill (or similar) required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in heavy truck components and systems
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with the ability to prioritize work effectively
  • Demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to learn on the fly, and adapt to change
  • Demonstrate professional and successful communication skills (verbal/written) with strong, effective interpersonal abilities
  • Proactive approach to reconciling issues and reaching consensus
  • Strong overall knowledge of PACCAR vehicles
  • Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with a Phase Gate development process
  • Knowledge in the use of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
