Job summary

X-Bow Systems in Socorro, New Mexico is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and commission facilities for energetic materials and solid rocket motor manufacturing. You will work in a multidisciplinary team, driving requirement verifications and deployment of hardware and control subsystems for a disruptive production method.

The role emphasizes hands-on assembly, stress and thermal analysis, and collaboration with data/automation engineers.

Qualifications

• Design/analysis/manufacture and test of energetic materials or chemical processing facilities.
• Experience with common manufacturing and fabrication techniques.
• Experience scoping pumps, mixers, heat exchangers, ovens, precision flow meters.
• Experience collaborating with Data/Automation/Controls engineers.
• 5+ years' experience with SolidWorks CAD and PDM or equivalent.
• Experience in multidisciplinary teams of ~5 engineers.
• Leadership experience is valued for the open position.
• Analysis from notebook level to advanced simulation for stress, fluid flow, thermal and electrical power.
• Hands-on electro/mechanical assembly and troubleshooting aptitude.
• Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
• Must be a US Person as defined by ITAR § 120.62.

Responsibilities

• Support design, analysis, component specification, integration and commissioning of facilities for energetic materials and Solid Rocket Motor manufacturing.
• Join a multi-disciplinary team responsible for requirement verifications, upgrades, anomaly resolution, design, analysis, test and deployment of hardware and control subsystems for a new nitrocellulose production method.
• Identify blockers, guide processes to address anomalies and performance shortfalls, verify requirements, and deliver on the master schedule with safety and environmental adherence.
• Demonstrate success in fluid mechanics, mechanical design, thermal/stress analysis and testing; contribute to CONOPS definition and commissioning.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will have a key role in supporting the design, analysis, component specification, integration and commissioning of facilities required for 21st century energetic material and Solid Rocket Motor manufacturing. Specifically, you will join a multi-disciplinary team responsible for all aspects of requirement verifications, upgrade and anomaly resolution, design, analysis, test, and deployment of hardware and control sub-systems related to a disruptive new method for nitrocellulose production.

You’ll know you’re successful in this role when you’ve identified blockers, guided processes to address anomalies and performance shortfalls, verified requirements are satisfied and you’ve delivered on the agreed upon master schedule while adhering to environmental and safety best practices. To thrive in this role, you must have demonstrated success in fluid mechanics analysis, mechanical design, thermal/stress analysis, and test with an aptitude for hands‑on definition of industrial CONOPS and commissioning of complex industrial/chemical systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience leading teams will be considered valuable for one open position
• Analysis skills from notebook level to advanced simulation capturing stress, fluid flow, thermal and/or electrical power
• Demonstrated electro/mechanical hands‑on assembly and trouble‑shooting aptitude
• Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
• Must be a US Persons as defined by § 120.62 of the ITAR
