Job summary

Garmin seeks a Mechanical Engineer 2 for its Marine Product team at the U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.

You will develop moderately complex mechanical solutions, test and validate concepts, and support products from design through mass production for boating, fishing and diving applications. Responsibilities include modeling parts in CAD, participating in design reviews, and coordinating with vendors while estimating tooling costs and design time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 1 year relevant experience.
  • Cumulative GPA should be >= 3.0 as a general guideline.
  • Proficient in CAD and able to model moderately complex parts (SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering tools and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin or OEM products.
  • Model complex parts as an expert CAD user.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide comments on mechanical designs.
  • Mockup and test basic mechanical systems to verify design requirements.
  • Estimate tooling costs and design time for basic mechanical designs.
  • Communicate with vendors that produce custom mechanical parts as required.
  • Specify test plans to validate moderately complex systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of injection modeling, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining processes.

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer 2 on the Marine Product team at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex mechanical solutions, testing and validating, completing technology explorations and/or delivering to marine products mass production. The marine team designs products for boating, fishing, diving and more!

Essential Functions
  • Complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin or OEM products
  • Model complex parts as an expert CAD user
  • Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on mechanical engineering designs
  • Mockup and test basic mechanical systems to verify compliance with design requirements
  • Make estimates on tooling, part cost and design time for basic mechanical designs
  • Communicate effectively with vendors that produce custom mechanical parts as required
  • Specify test plans to validate moderately complex systems
  • Possess knowledge of injection modeling, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining processes, etc.
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preferred part materials for basic part production and performance
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model moderately complex parts (SolidWorks)
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of relevant engineering tools
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous work experience in consumer electronics design
  • Experience using SolidWorks or OnShape CAD software
