Job summary

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, analysis, and testing.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks and PLM/PDM systems.
  • Experience creating and releasing complex mechanical models, drawings, and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and drafting standards.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical hardware builds, assembly and integration.
  • Experience with environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock).

The Opportunity

CACI International Inc. has an immediate opening for Mechanical Engineer located in Dulles, VA. The Mechanical Engineer will take ownership of design updates, engineering change requests, assisting with production issues, and testing. You will work in a fast‑paced, high-performance environment, collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and test teams to deliver innovative solutions for advanced hardware systems. This role requires strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and PLM systems along with hands‑on mechanical build experience, and a background in testing components in demanding environments.

Responsibilities
  • Design, model, and document complex mechanical systems, assemblies, and components.
  • Manage CAD data and configuration using PLM software.
  • Develop engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs that meet ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
  • Perform design trade studies, tolerance analysis, and material selection for demanding applications.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs are producible, cost-effective, and high quality.
  • Participate in prototype builds, assembly, and troubleshooting of mechanical hardware.
  • Support and execute component‑and‑system‑level testing, including environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock, etc.).
  • Work cross‑functionally with engineers from multiple disciplines to integrate mechanical systems into larger assemblies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design, test, and build processes.
Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • 3+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, analysis, and testing.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM/PLM systems.
  • Proven experience creating and releasing complex mechanical models, drawings, and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and mechanical drafting standards.
  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical hardware builds, assembly, and integration.
  • Experience supporting or executing mechanical/environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock, or structural).
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, initiative, and ability to work both independently and in teams.
Desired
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI if required
  • Experience with aerospace, defense, or other high‑reliability industries.
  • Experience with test planning, instrumentation, and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of FEA tools.
