Job description

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and improvement of mechanical systems and components. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and product teams to develop reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components, systems, and assemblies.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Use CAD software and engineering analysis tools to create and evaluate designs.
  • Perform design reviews, tolerance analysis, root-cause analysis, and failure investigations.
  • Support product testing, validation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, quality, and other engineering teams.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, and company procedures.
  • Recommend improvements to product performance, durability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Document test results, engineering decisions, and project progress.
  • Participate in project planning and meet assigned technical and delivery milestones.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university in the United States.
Required Skills
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with mechanical design, product development, testing, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Proficiency with engineering design and analysis tools, such as CAD software, simulation tools, or related applications.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong written, verbal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and project-based environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Caterpillar products, heavy equipment, engines, hydraulics, or industrial machinery.
  • Experience with 3D CAD, GD&T, FEA, or design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Knowledge of product validation, reliability testing, and quality improvement methods.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous-improvement methodologies.
