Job summary

RND Automation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Florida to design and improve automation systems for our custom equipment. You will create 3D models in Autodesk Inventor, specify components, and collaborate with electrical and controls teams to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.

Responsibilities

• Custom Equipment Design: Develop and design full machines, mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for custom automation equipment; ensuring they meet customer requirements, industry standards, and RND specifications.
• Concept Development & Prototyping: Work with cross-functional teams to generate design concepts, create prototypes, and refine designs based on testing and feedback.
• 3D CAD Modeling: Utilize Autodesk Inventor within a Vault Pro environment to create detailed models and drawings.
• System Integration: Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to integrate mechanical systems with automation controls.
• Feasibility Studies: Conduct design reviews, feasibility studies, and technical analysis for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
• Run Design Calculations: Perform calculations for force, moment load, inertia, seal pressures, thermal loading.
• Technical Documentation: Generate design specifications, spare parts lists, assembly instructions, and maintenance manuals.
• Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Analyze and resolve design and performance issues during prototyping, testing, and deployment.
• Project Management: Assist in managing project timelines, budgets, and resources for on-time delivery.
• Testing & Validation: Oversee testing of new equipment to meet performance criteria.
• Continuous Improvement: Propose design improvements and cost-saving solutions.
• Compliance: Ensure systems comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications.

Job description

RND Automation engineers, designs, manufactures, and services robotic, packaging and assembly automation equipment. Our offerings include horizontal and vertical form fill and seal machinery, automated assembly equipment, and robotic automation for the medical device, consumer product, and industrial device industries. We have an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing and improving mechanical systems and equipment tailored to automate specific processes for our customers. This role requires a strong understanding of automation systems, as well as the ability to brainstorm mechanical concepts, create mechanical designs in 3D software, detail parts, create a BOM for purchasing, troubleshoot and debug mechanical designs, and determine material and component specifications based on job requirements. A basic understanding of hands-on machine assembly is expected. This position will be responsible for applying RND standards for both process and component selection to develop robust and innovative custom designs applied to automation machines. This multi-faceted position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the success of various projects. Minimal travel is a part of this position to support the team and our customers.

Education And Experience

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or related engineering field and a minimum of 3+ years of experience in designing and maintaining automation systems.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor. Autodesk Vault Pro PLM and AutoCAD software are preferred.
• Experience with other 3D CAD platforms including SolidWorks or Catia.
• Understanding of automation systems and equipment (e.g., conveyors, robotic arms, pick-and-place systems).
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.
• Ability to travel up to 15% of the time for customer support and to attend training.
• Willingness to travel with Applications/Sales teams to supply engineering expertise on preliminary sales calls.
• High level of proficiency in Excel and Word
