Job summary

Wabtec is seeking a senior mechanical designer to lead end-to-end product development from concept to production. You will collaborate with Design Engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions using SolidWorks and 2D drafting tools.

The role emphasizes strong project ownership, risk management, and a passion for high-performance engineered products, with emphasis on cost, timing, and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited) is required.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are expected.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project ownership in prior roles.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities are essential.
  • Self-motivated with a strong ownership mindset.
  • 8+ years' experience in mechanical design and product development.
  • 8+ years' experience using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Proven track record managing projects from concept through production.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, materials, processes, DFM/DFA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end new product development projects, delivering results on time and within budget.
  • Define objectives aligned with technical and business requirements.
  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and resources.
  • Drive accountability across cross-functional teams.
  • Proactively identify challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Create manufacturable designs for components in demanding environments.
  • Transform concepts into robust engineering solutions using SolidWorks and 2D drafting tools.
  • Ensure designs meet customer, regulatory, and performance requirements.
  • Seek continuous improvements in performance, cost, and reliability.
  • Design and execute engineering validation tests for performance and durability.
  • Analyze test data and implement design improvements.
  • Document test plans and outcomes clearly and accurately.
  • Define production test requirements and resolve design issues efficiently.
  • Research and select qualified suppliers to support innovation and product needs.
  • Incorporate customer feedback into product enhancements and apply Lean principles.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and product literature.
  • Clearly communicate design intent, risks, and progress to stakeholders.

Job description

You will collaborate with an engaged group of Wabtec team members across all levels, partnering most closely with our Design Engineering team.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $79100-112800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include annual bonus, if eligible.
