Job summary

Shive-Hattery, a full-service architecture and engineering firm, seeks a Mechanical Engineer with 5–10 years of experience to shape projects from concept through completion. You will work with a collaborative team to deliver high-quality solutions for diverse clients.

The role involves designing utility systems, coordinating with building disciplines, and producing Revit drawings. It offers an office or hybrid work environment with site visits and professional growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with HVAC emphasis.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and Revit preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design of utility systems including steam, chilled water, hot water, and compressed air.
  • Design of building systems: plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, fire protection, building automation, and industrial processes.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (electrical, structural, architectural, civil) on projects.
  • Produce construction drawings using Revit 3D modeling software.
  • Visit project sites for data collection and construction observation.

Why This Role Matters

As a Mechanical Engineer with 5-10 years of experience you'll play a key role in supporting the firm and shaping projects that make a difference-from concept through completion. You'll collaborate with talented teammates, contribute your expertise, and help us deliver thoughtful, high-quality solutions for those we serve.

What You'll Do
  • Mechanical design of utility systems to include steam, chilled water, hot water, compressed air, and others.
  • Occasional design of mechanical design of building systems to include plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, fire protection, building automation, and industrial process systems
  • Work in a team setting with mechanical team members and multi-disciplines teams including electrical, structural, architectural and civil
  • Work on a variety of mechanical projects across our market sectors. Common projects include higher education and healthcare facilities (with the occasional project with government, industrial, and commercial facilities)
  • Produce construction drawings using Revit 3D modeling software
  • Will be visiting project sites to assist with measuring, data collection and construction observation duties
Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited engineering school with bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an HVAC emphasis
  • Experienced in 3D modeling software, Revit preferred. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is desired
  • Must be able to collaborate with other team members in a professional environment and have good interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Professional Engineering License
What will make you stand out
  • Prior experience in thermal utility or central plant design a plus but not required
  • Experience with professional design services (engineering consulting) is preferred
  • Must be able to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to engineering detail
