Job description

Summary

We have a Mechanical Engineer position open in Orlando, FL. This role is responsible for mechanical engineering on large-scale projects, including full system design, analysis, and field support. Project responsibilities include mechanical system design from scratch, stress and fatigue calculations, acceleration forces, load calculations, material stress design, failure and effects analysis, risk and hazard assessment, component selection, and mechanical system installation/commissioning.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement fully integrated mechanical assembly systems to meet project and client requirements
  • Perform system analysis and calculations, including stress, fatigue, reliability, life expectancy, and tolerance studies
  • Conduct risk and hazard assessments to ensure mechanical safety and compliance with amusement ride standards (ASTM)
  • Develop technical documentation, including theory of operation, system design descriptions, test plans, and maintenance/job plans
  • Prepare detailed mechanical design drawings and assemblies using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
  • Design, troubleshoot, and maintain pneumatic and hydraulic control systems
  • Understand Class 1 parts to optimize redundancy and minimize single points of failure
  • Assist with start-up, debugging, commissioning, and field installation of integrated mechanical systems
  • Act as technical lead on projects, guiding lower-level engineers, technicians, and contractors
  • Manage smaller projects ($50K$250K), including scheduling, work assignments, purchasing, subcontractor oversight, and cost management
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, ideally including theme park or amusement ride design
  • Strong experience with full system mechanical design, including stress, fatigue, and load calculations
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of safety standards for amusement rides and ability to conduct hazard/risk assessments
  • Experience leading technical teams and supervising field installation and commissioning activities
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel up to 35 percent
Nice to Have
  • Experience with material stress design and failure effects analysis
  • Familiarity with acceleration forces, reach envelopes, ingress/egress, and emergency evacuation scenarios
  • Prior experience with field support at large-scale projects
