Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley seeks a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to water and wastewater projects in the North East. You will drive mechanical design from concept through commissioning, coordinating with multi-discipline teams to meet programme, budget, and quality targets.

The role emphasizes collaboration, client engagement, and delivering safe, efficient solutions while supporting professional chartership development. A full-time, on-site position based in Durham is offered.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Active pursuit of IEng/CEng with a recognized Engineering Institution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure and related projects through outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinate with Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process designers to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery and adherence to specifications.
  • Collaborate with commercial, operations and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions across design and construction stages.
  • Engage with clients to manage relationships and support project aims as part of a one-team approach.

We joined a new partnership in Northumbrian Water’s new Living Water Enterprise, an innovative vehicle developed to deliver large scale construction programmes in AMP8 and beyond, supporting a £3.6bn workload.

Northumbrian Water supplies water and sewerage services to just under 4.4 million people and has worked closely with MMB and JN Bentley since 2001. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services needed to keep water flowing and wastewater treated.You’llwork on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping themechanicalfunctions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that allmechanicalaspects are meticulously considered and integrated.

Summary
The role of aMechanicalEngineer includes:
  • Developthe mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects through the outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover, including, but not limited to, P&IDs, valve schedules, pump calculations, defining safe access and lifting arrangements, above ground pipework layouts, etc.
  • Coordinate with the project teamcomprisingofElectrical, Civil, Geotech andProcess designersand ensure designs are completed onprogramme, within budget, and to the quality defined by framework specifications.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient,practicaland safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond
  • Positively engage with the client, managingrelationshipsand adopting a one-team approach to supporting them in achieving their aims.
