Job summary

Overview of position:

FEDITC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work in the Texarkana (New Boston) TX area.

The Manufacturing Engineer (Depot Systems & Equipment Design) serves as a technical authority responsible for the design, development, and optimization of complex production equipment, specialized tooling, and automated manufacturing systems supporting the overhaul, repair, modification, and upgrade of wheeled and tracked military vehicles. This role bridges advanced mechanical design with shop-floor execution. The engineer will utilize Autodesk Inventor Ultimate and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to engineer heavy-duty depot solutions across major combat systems, including hulls, turrets, armaments, and powertrains. Additionally, the incumbent will champion process improvement initiatives, integrate robotics and machine vision technology, and provide critical engineering planning and Contract Officer Representative (COR) support to execute high-value government procurement and modernization programs.

A United States Citizenship and an active Secret DoD Security Clearance is required to be considered for this position.

  • Provides independent engineering support for conceptual design, improvement, and installation of production equipment and associated facilities.
  • Evaluates manufacturing methods and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Monitors technological developments within industry and government.
  • Reviews overhaul, repair, modification, and upgrade programs to determine if current systems and methods are effective and economical.
Production Equipment Design
  • Designs complex production and test equipment for depot maintenance operations.
  • Oversees purchase and fabrication of specialized equipment, fixtures, and tools.
  • Develops engineering designs using calculations involving:
    • Pressure
    • Flow
    • Temperature
    • Heat transfer
    • Weight
    • Friction
    • Engineering tolerances
  • Selects commercial components including:
    • Valves
    • Pumps
    • Motors
    • Gearboxes
    • Cylinders
    • Piping
    • Controls
    • Instrumentation
  • Designs hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems while considering:
    • Safety
    • Maintenance accessibility
    • Operator usability
  • Uses Autodesk Inventor Ultimate Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to perform engineering calculations.
  • Designs automation solutions incorporating robotics and machine vision technology.
  • Oversees equipment assembly, testing, operation, and final acceptance.
  • Demonstrates, trains, and releases equipment to production personnel.
Process Improvement and Manufacturing Engineering
  • Conducts studies of:
    • Shop layout
    • Manufacturing methods
    • Production systems
  • Implements modern manufacturing technologies into depot production.
  • Participates in strategic planning for short- and long-range organizational goals.

Engineering Planning and Contract Support
  • Develops engineering plans, procedures, specifications, and manufacturing criteria.
  • Researches technical information using:
    • Government repositories

    • Applicable laws and regulations
  • Develops sole-source justifications and Independent Government Estimates (IGEs).
  • Prepares technical specifications for procurement actions.
  • Reviews contractor technical proposals for compliance with contract requirements.
  • Recommends approval or rejection of contractor proposals and engineering revisions.
  • Conducts market research on state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies.
Clearance:
  • Active Secret Security Clearance is required
  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Maintain applicable security clearance(s) at the level required by the client and/or applicable certification(s) as requested by FEDITC and/or required by FEDITC’S Client(s)/Customer(s)/Prime contractor(s).
