Job summary

L&T Technology Services is seeking a Dev/Research Engineer 2 to support development, validation, and testing of mechanical drivetrain systems in Mossville, Illinois. You will perform durability tests, analyze results, identify root causes, and propose improvements to enhance product performance and reliability.

You will work closely with design and development teams, operate test instrumentation, and prepare detailed reports and recommendations to guide product evolution and design decisions.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of engineering experience in mechanical testing or R&D.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Master’s degree candidates welcome; however, candidates should still have at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate degrees are not accepted for this position.
  • Strong knowledge of drivetrain, powertrain, or mechanical systems.
  • Experience with product validation, testing, or durability testing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and execute product validation and durability tests for mechanical drivetrain systems.
  • Perform system-level laboratory testing and evaluate mechanical system performance under various operating conditions.
  • Set up and use test instrumentation and data acquisition systems to collect engineering data.
  • Analyze complex test data and interpret results to identify performance issues, trends, and potential failures.
  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations related to mechanical systems and components.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hardware, and software issues encountered during testing.
  • Perform drivetrain inspections before and after testing to identify wear, damage, or other failure conditions.
  • Work closely with design and development engineers to understand test results and resolve product issues.
  • Develop engineering recommendations and proposals to improve product performance, durability, reliability, and design.
  • Prepare detailed test reports, inspection documentation, data summaries, and engineering recommendations.
  • Support multiple testing projects simultaneously and effectively manage testing priorities.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Follow established engineering, testing, safety, and quality procedures.

Job description

We are seeking a Dev/Research Engineer 2 to support the development, validation, and testing of mechanical drivetrain systems. This role is ideal for a mechanically strong engineer who enjoys hands-on laboratory testing, data analysis, troubleshooting, failure investigation, and product improvement.
