Digital Prospectors is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support rapid development of robotic and electromechanical systems. You will contribute to mechanical design, software, embedded sensing, electrical integration, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting in small multidisciplinary teams.

You will help transition concepts into functional prototypes and demonstrations across software, hardware, lab testing, and field experiments as project needs evolve.

Aufgaben

• Design, prototype, fabricate, integrate, and test robotic hardware and electromechanical systems.
• Design mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools including AutoCAD.
• Develop rapid prototypes via 3D printing, machining, and fabrication.

Job Description:

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support the rapid development, integration, and evaluation of robotic and electromechanical systems. This role will contribute across mechanical design, software, embedded systems, electrical integration, prototyping, testing, and system troubleshooting within small, multidisciplinary research and development teams.

The engineer will help transition concepts into functional prototypes and demonstrations, working across software, hardware, laboratory testing, and field experimentation as program needs evolve.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design, prototype, fabricate, integrate, and test robotic hardware and electromechanical systems.
• Design mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools, including AutoCAD.
• Develop rapid prototypes using 3D printing, machining, and other fabrication techniques.
• Select, characterize, and integrate actuators, motors, encoders, sensors, cameras, controllers, and related components.
• Develop basic electrical interfaces, wiring, power distribution, and supporting electronics for prototype systems.
• Design and implement embedded control and data‑acquisition systems using platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or comparable devices.
• Develop software for robotic and electromechanical systems, primarily using C++, Python, Golang, or comparable languages.
• Integrate software, electronics, sensors, actuators, embedded controllers, and mechanical components into complete robotic systems.
• Develop real-time or near‑real‑time applications and integrate software with physical hardware.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues spanning mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software subsystems.
• Develop integration procedures and systematically troubleshoot system‑level performance.
• Develop and execute test plans to evaluate robotic system and subsystem performance.
• Create test fixtures, data‑collection tools, and analysis methods as needed.
• Document system requirements, test procedures, results, limitations, risks, and recommended improvements.
• Work effectively within small, multidisciplinary teams executing rapid design‑build‑test cycles under tight schedules.
• Communicate system designs, technical results, tradeoffs, and recommendations to technical teams, leadership, sponsors, and collaborators.
• Contribute to technical reports, presentations, proposals, and other program documentation.

Qualifications:

• At least five years of experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
• At least five years of experience independently solving technical problems and delivering functional systems under tight schedules.
• At least five years of experience developing robotic, mechatronic, automated, or other complex electromechanical systems.
• At least five years of experience selecting and integrating actuators, motors, sensors, controllers, and other electromechanical components.
• At least five years of experience with software development languages such as Python, Golang, or C++.
• At least five years of experience with AutoCAD or comparable CAD tools.
• At least five years of experience integrating software with physical hardware.
• At least five years of experience developing software for microcontrollers or embedded computing platforms.
• At least five years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting technical issues.
• At least five years of experience integrating and troubleshooting computers, embedded controllers, sensors, actuators, electrical components, and mechanical systems.
• At least five years of experience with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or comparable platforms and common hardware communication interfaces and protocols.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
