Job summary

Erlab Americas in Kansas City is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to drive engineering excellence in support of manufacturing, sustainment, and production of filtration and air safety systems.

The role collaborates closely with global R&D and product engineering teams to implement changes, optimize processes, and ensure high quality on the production floor while supporting Lean, 5S, and safety initiatives. The position is on-site in Kansas City.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 5–7 years of manufacturing or product engineering experience.
  • Strong mechanical systems knowledge and design experience.
  • Experience with technical documentation and engineering change processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day‑to‑day engineering support for manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and optimize work instructions, BOMs, drawings, and docs.
  • Design fixtures, tools, jigs, and mechanical components for production.
  • Collaborate with global R&D and product engineering teams on changes.
  • Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies and improve processes.
  • Support validation and testing of components and final products.
  • Lead root cause analysis for mechanical or process issues.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in equipment selection, installation, and maintenance planning.

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in driving engineering excellence, sustaining manufacturing performance, and supporting the design, improvement, and production of Erlab’s industry-leading filtration and air safety systems. This role partners closely with Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and global engineering teams to ensure products are built safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

This engineer will be deeply involved in process optimization, product sustainment, tooling design, documentation, and hands‑on troubleshooting while helping to ensure the Kansas City facility operates smoothly while continuously improving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day engineering support to manufacturing operations, including troubleshooting mechanical, assembly, and process issues.
  • Develop, update, and optimize work instructions, BOMs, drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Design fixtures, tools, jigs, and mechanical components to support efficient and repeatable production.
  • Collaborate with global R&D and product engineering teams in France and China to implement product changes, improvements, and new technologies.
  • Analyze production data and KPIs to identify inefficiencies and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support validation and testing of components, subassemblies, and final products.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities for mechanical or process-related issues.
  • Partner with Quality to ensure compliance with engineering standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in equipment selection, installation, and maintenance planning for mechanical systems.
  • Champion 5S, lean manufacturing, and safety initiatives within the production environment.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing or product engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, component design, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Experience developing technical documentation and engineering change processes.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting ability and comfort working directly on the production floor.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
Preferred:
  • Experience in filtration, clean‑air systems, or life‑sciences equipment manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, plastics, airflow systems, or electronics integration.
Working Conditions
  • Work performed in a production and office environment with frequent presence on the manufacturing floor.
  • Regular exposure to moderate noise, dust, and industrial odors.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing required to support production activities.
  • Must be able to lift and move materials or equipment up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • PPE (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection) required while on the production floor.
  • Standard business hours with flexibility for off‑shift or weekend support as needed.
  • Occasional travel (domestic and international) to other Erlab facilities or vendor locations.
