Job summary

Abbott Laboratories in Irving, Texas, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Core Lab division on site. You will design components, develop tooling, analyze designs, and support manufacturing processes to deliver reliable, cost-effective products.

The position requires a Bachelor's in Engineering, at least 3 years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and effective communication. Travel may be required; on-site work is expected.

The Opportunity

The Mechanical Engineer role works out of our Irving, TX (LC02) location on site with Core Lab division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

What You Will Do

Supports the development and improvement of products, manufacturing processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools. Uses engineering principles to solve technical problems, improve product performance, and support reliable, cost-effective manufacturing. Works independently on routine tasks and may lead smaller projects or product components.

  • Design and develop product components, subassemblies, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Analyze designs using testing, simulations, and engineering calculations.
  • Select materials, components, and technologies that meet product requirements.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes to verify performance and reduce design risks.
  • Support product testing, validation, and reliability assessments.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to products, equipment, materials, or manufacturing processes.
  • Help develop manufacturing processes and recommend design improvements for easier, more efficient production.
  • Participate in risk assessments (dFMEA, pFMEA) and help identify and mitigate potential issues.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, drawings, and change records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for products, processes, and engineering tools.
  • Lead or participate in design reviews and cross-functional project activities.
  • Manage engineering tasks effectively and deliver work on schedule.
  • Stay current on new technologies and engineering best practices
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related STEM field
  • Minimum 3 years Relevant Experience
  • Engineering experience in product / process development and technical design.
  • Ability to apply statistics and analytical thinking.
  • Technical knowledge and expertise of subsystems, design protocols, and problem-solving tools.
  • Ability to apply statistics and analytical thinking.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skill Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • SolidWorks experience is preferred
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Willingness to work daily on site
  • Medical Device experience is preferred

The base pay for this position is $61,300.00 – $122,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
