Actalent is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Hauppauge, NY. The role focuses on hands-on mechanical design, machine design, and product development from concept through testing and production.

Candidates will work with customers across industries to deliver manufacturable, reliable solutions. The position is contract-to-hire, onsite with a 9/80 schedule, offering a competitive hourly rate based on experience and a clear path to permanent employment.

About The Opportunity

An award-winning engineering services company in Hauppauge, NY is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on mechanical design, machine design, product development, and solving complex engineering challenges. Youll have the opportunity to own designs from initial concept through modeling, analysis, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing, while working directly with customers across a variety of industries.

The company is entering a period of renewed growth and is looking for engineers interested in long-term stability, technical variety, and the opportunity to transition into a permanent position.

What You’ll Do

• Design mechanical systems, custom machinery, equipment, complex assemblies, and machined components using SolidWorks.
• Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production-ready manufacturing drawings.
• Take projects from concept development through prototype, testing, design validation, and production.
• Perform structural and thermal FEA using ANSYS or similar simulation tools.
• Apply GD&T, DFM, materials selection, and machine design principles to ensure designs are manufacturable, reliable, and cost-effective.
• Evaluate designs through engineering calculations, simulations, testing, and design reviews.
• Troubleshoot mechanical design issues and implement improvements prior to production.
• Work closely with manufacturing, electrical, controls, and project engineering teams.
• Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and product improvements.
• Interface directly with customers to understand requirements and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Create and maintain engineering drawings, design documentation, revisions, and product release records.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 7+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Strong background in machine design, custom equipment, or complex mechanical product development.
• Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
• Experience performing FEA using ANSYS or similar simulation software.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Machine design
  • GD&T
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Machined components
  • Manufacturing processes
  • Materials and material selection
• Demonstrated experience taking designs from concept through manufacturing or production.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
