Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer to provide on-floor support for pilot and production lines in a fast-paced setting near Harvard, MA. The role focuses on manufacturability assessments, design feedback, and documentation updates to improve production readiness.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years in mechanical/manufacturing/quality engineering, strong communication skills, and CAD experience (NX preferred).

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Manufacturing, Aerospace, Industrial, Materials).
  • 4+ years in mechanical, manufacturing, or quality engineering.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-floor, hands-on manufacturing support for pilot and production lines.
  • Assess the producibility of designs and provide continuous design improvement.
  • Update design documentation with feedback from prototype and pilot builds.
  • Assess non-conformances.
  • Participate in root cause investigations.
  • Suggest and lead prototyping efforts that reduce risk during manufacturing start-up.
  • Create standard procedures and contribute to the creation of work instructions.
  • Organize and lead design for manufacturing reviews.
  • Work with production teams to improve process and/or equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide on-floor, hands-on manufacturing support for pilot and production lines

Qualifications:
  • BS in technical field - Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (ex. Manufacturing, Aerospace, Industrial, Materials, etc)
  • 4+ years' experience in mechanical, manufacturing, or quality engineering
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Basic CAD skills (NX preferred, any acceptable)
  • Expertise in AMSE Y14 GD&T principles
  • Experience in a production environment
  • Design experience of large industrial equipment
  • Design experience with any of the following:
    • Composite materials
    • Welding
    • Vacuum systems
    • Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma principles
    • Knowledge of quality systems and formal RCCA processes
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, stooping, and sitting, for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics
