Mechanical Engineer role at Stantec
Opportunity
In this role you will apply mechanical engineering principles and communication skills to deliver project excellence for our clients. You will collaborate with architects, civil, electrical, and structural engineers, and present design solutions to clients. Focus will be on HVAC and plumbing design for building projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Apply mechanical engineering skills to design and oversee mechanical systems for building projects.
- Produce design documentation, drawings, and calculations as required.
- Serve as a resource by sharing knowledge with team members.
- Meet technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary, and client service objectives.
- Develop client presentations related to projects.
- Keep current knowledge of technologies, trends, and market types.
- Attend client project meetings.
- Apply project‑management knowledge to meet project requirements within established time frames and budgets.
- Perform water, waste, and gas calculations and product specifications.
- Coordinate and prepare schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
- Design plumbing systems, including water, sanitary, storm, diesel, and natural gas distribution systems.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Designing HVAC and plumbing systems for facilities and built environments.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Strong knowledge of Building codes, NFPA standards, and (preferred) Unified Facilities Criteria.
- Familiarity with project‑related documents and standards.
- Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines.
- Familiarity with sustainable design principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with owners, disciplines, contractors, and suppliers.
- Logical, reasoning, and organizational skills to structure concepts into projects.
- Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, energy, ASHRAE, and other building codes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit.
- Ability to create building energy models and perform life‑cycle cost analysis using NIST BLCC5 software.
- Experience with heating/cooling load calculations using Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, IES, or equivalent.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET‑accredited) or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in buildings design preferred.
- Preferred candidate is licensed Professional Engineer or currently pursuing licensure (EIT).
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
- Typically work in an office environment; field work may involve exposure to inclement weather.
Pay Range
Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD, CA, NJ – $100,000.00 – $145,000.00 annually.
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions where required. Compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and location. Certain roles are bonus eligible.
