Job summary

JS Global in Columbia, MD is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our design team. The role focuses on energy generation, materials processing, and automation of manufacturing systems, with hands-on drafting, prototyping, and testing responsibilities.

The engineer will develop mechanical designs, create drawings using CAD/BIM tools, select materials, and build/test prototypes. Strong communication and collaboration across teams are essential for on-time, within-budget project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • At least two years of practical, on-the-job mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience with CAD/BIM design, Mechanical Calculation programs, and Excel.
  • Ability to work in the US and travel as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Works with a design team to create design sketches, layouts, and plans.
  • Uses CAD and Revit to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product.
  • Produces specifications for products and chooses raw materials and components for production.
  • Builds models and prototypes and tests the design.
  • Studieds test data and compares with similar designs.
  • Develops control systems and monitors products.
  • Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new products.
  • Develop testing processes and perform testing and validation of new designs.
  • Generate working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration
  • Perform engineering calculations to support design work
  • Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and vendors
  • Perform detailed documentation to track project development
  • Ensure project timeline is met and project stays within budget

Salary: 120,000.00 - 145,000.00 USD / YEAR

Purpose:

The Mechanical engineer is involved with the generation, distribution, and use of energy; the processing of materials; the control and automation of manufacturing systems and the solutions to environmental problems.

Duties:
  • Works with a design team to create design sketches, layouts, and plans.
  • Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) and Revit software to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product.
  • Produces specifications for products and chooses raw materials and components to be used in production.
  • Builds models and prototypes of the product and tests the design.
  • Studies the test data and makes comparisons with similar designs.
  • Develops control systems and monitors products
  • Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new products
  • Develop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of new designs
  • Generate working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration
  • Perform engineering calculations to support design work

Skills and Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • At least two years of practical, on-the-job mechanical engineering experience, performing mechanical engineer duties including development of concept design, preparation of construction documents, and construction inspections in the areas of
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, accurate and professional manner, both in written and verbal format, and to represent the organization in terms of project management and customer service.
  • Valid driver’s license, with good driving record.
  • Experience with CAD/BIM design, Mechanical Calculation programs, and Excel.
  • Ability to work in the US, familiarity with and desire to work in Central Oregon and the ability to pass a criminal background check if required.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and strong writing skills.
Characteristics Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate personal initiative, motivation, and strong problem solving skills
  • Able to excel with minimum supervision
  • Willingness travel as needed to support walk-through, installation, and startup and commissioning activities
  • OBO experience is preferred

The majority of the work is performed in a professional office setting, in Columbia, MD and a portion is performed in the customer’s commercial or government facility.

While on the jobsite, there will be exposure to noise, chemicals, the elements, uneven surfaces, and other hazardous situations.

Normal hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Additional time will be required during heavy workloads, emergency situations or to meet deadlines.

Some travel will be required.

Physical Demands:

Both jobsite and office work require the ability to communicate verbally, the ability to type, good manual dexterity and visual acuity.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
