Job summary

Sapience Automation in Charleston, SC is seeking an experienced Engineer II, Mechanical Design to deliver complete design documentation and support project execution.

The role requires understanding of mechanical systems, CAD tools, and design standards, with opportunities to mentor junior designers and lead small design portions of projects while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Higher education AND/OR related experience and training.
  • CAD certificate is a plus (but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise machine layout drawings and detailed mechanical designs.
  • Apply advanced understanding of component integration, fit, tolerancing and mechanical systems including pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to loads, forces, and areas to support design decisions.
  • Ensure all design documentation meets internal quality standards and customer standards.
  • Reference and interpret technical documentation and standards.
  • Manage assigned design work to meet project deadlines and budgets, while anticipating potential risks or issues.
  • Lead small design portions of projects, contributing to reviews, construction support, and field verification as needed.
  • Demonstrate a track record of successful project contributions that generate repeat business and client satisfaction.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining and organizing design files, drawings, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges and optimize solutions.
  • Serve as a key contact for design-related questions and clarifications within the team or with clients.

The Engineer II, Mechanical Design is an experienced designer responsible for delivering accurate and complete design documentation to support successful project outcomes. This role executes standard design tasks and performs more complex assignments. The position also demonstrates a strong understanding of mechanical systems, CAD tools, and design standards, along with foundational knowledge of Operator Interface Systems and Instrumentation. Working closely with engineers and project teams, this position also supports project execution, promotes design quality, and contributes to mentoring junior designers.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Collaboration & Training
  • Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges and optimize solutions
  • Serve as a key contact for design-related questions and clarifications within the team or with clients
  • Support team planning and coordination by helping align design scope with project objectives
  • Expand knowledge of new technologies and design practices to improve personal and team capabilities
  • Take initiative to lead process improvements or contribute to design standards
  • Share knowledge, revise work, and provide guidance on task execution to less experienced Designers
Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination
  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention.
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero accidents.
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed.
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.
Qualifications And Requirements

Physical Requirements
