Job description

Mechanical Engineer
Design the Future of Mission-Critical Infrastructure

GOR Group is supporting a client seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design and develop mechanical systems for innovative modular infrastructure and mission-critical facility solutions.

This position is ideal for an engineer with approximately five to eight years of experience who enjoys doing the technical work, building detailed Revit models, producing coordinated construction documents, and solving practical design challenges. This person will work directly within the project models and drawings rather than primarily overseeing the work of others.

The successful candidate will bring strong Revit expertise, a solid understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems, and the ability to support projects from design development through fabrication, installation, and commissioning.

Experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial infrastructure, manufacturing, or modular construction projects is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
Revit Modeling and Design Documentation
  • Develop detailed mechanical and HVAC system models using Revit.
  • Produce coordinated construction documents, fabrication drawings, equipment layouts, sections, schedules, details, and installation packages.
  • Create and modify Revit families, templates, schedules, and model components as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and constructible mechanical models throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate mechanical models with architectural, structural, electrical, controls, and manufacturing disciplines.
  • Participate in model reviews and identify clashes, design conflicts, and coordination issues.
  • Incorporate design changes, field conditions, vendor information, and redlines into project models and drawings.
Mechanical System Design
  • Design HVAC, cooling, mechanical piping, and thermal-management systems for modular and mission-critical facilities.
  • Develop practical engineering solutions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, constructability, and cost.
  • Prepare equipment layouts, piping arrangements, ductwork designs, and mechanical room configurations.
  • Support projects from design development through fabrication and installation-level documentation.
Engineering Calculations and Analysis

Perform mechanical engineering calculations, including:

  • HVAC equipment sizing
  • Heating and cooling load calculations
  • Airflow calculations
  • Duct sizing
  • Pressure-drop calculations
  • Pump and piping sizing
  • Hydronic system calculations

Evaluate system performance and make design adjustments based on project requirements, equipment limitations, and coordination needs.

Equipment Selection and Integration

Select and specify HVAC and mechanical equipment, including:

  • Air handling units
  • Chillers
  • Pumps
  • Heat exchangers
  • Coolant Distribution Units
  • Fans and ventilation equipment
  • Mechanical piping components
  • Related system accessories and controls

Review manufacturer data, equipment dimensions, connection requirements, and service clearances to ensure proper integration into the Revit model and overall facility design.

Multidisciplinary Coordination
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, controls, manufacturing, commissioning, and field installation teams.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and vendor documentation for technical accuracy and constructability.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and model-review sessions.
  • Identify constructability concerns, model conflicts, and design risks early in the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate design requirements and technical information clearly to internal teams, vendors, contractors, and clients.
Fabrication and Field Support
  • Support modular fabrication, equipment installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and field modifications.
  • Respond to RFIs and assist with resolving design or installation issues.
  • Update models and drawings to reflect approved changes and field conditions.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and field teams to ensure designs can be fabricated and installed efficiently.
  • Travel as needed to manufacturing facilities, project sites, commissioning activities, and client meetings.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Five to eight years of professional mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience.
  • Strong proficiency with Revit, including mechanical system modeling, equipment layouts, piping, ductwork, schedules, details, and construction documentation.
  • Hands-on experience producing coordinated mechanical design packages.
  • Experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, industrial, manufacturing, modular, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Hydronic systems
    • HVAC equipment selection
    • Heating and cooling load calculations
    • Airflow and duct design
    • Mechanical piping systems
    • Heat-transfer principles
    • Mechanical controls and sequences of operation
  • Ability to independently complete assigned design and modeling work while collaborating with a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Strong attention to detail and model accuracy.
  • Practical problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and evolving project requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as project needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial facilities, or modular infrastructure projects.
  • Experience developing mechanical designs for manufacturing or fabrication.
  • Familiarity with:
    • High-density computing environments
    • Liquid-cooling technologies
    • Rear-door heat exchangers
    • Coolant Distribution Units
    • Chilled-water systems
    • Central utility plants
    • Redundant cooling systems
  • Experience using Navisworks for model coordination and clash detection.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar design platforms.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling, CFD analysis, or mechanical system performance analysis.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, startup, or field construction activities.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification, Professional Engineer license, or progress toward licensure.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical engineer who is comfortable spending the majority of their time designing, modeling, coordinating, and producing project documentation in Revit.

They do not need to be a department leader or people manager. They are a technically capable doer who takes ownership of assigned systems, pays close attention to model quality, and enjoys turning engineering concepts into detailed, constructible designs.

This individual is practical, responsive, and comfortable working closely with engineers, designers, manufacturing teams, vendors, and field personnel. They thrive in a fast-moving environment where designs continue to evolve and where accuracy, accountability, adaptability, and teamwork are highly valued.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience, Revit proficiency, technical qualifications, education, certifications, and overall alignment with the position.

Eligible employees may also receive a comprehensive benefits package and other applicable incentive programs.

Why Join?

This opportunity offers the chance to work on cutting-edge infrastructure projects supporting the growth of mission-critical facilities and advanced computing environments. You'll collaborate with experienced professionals, contribute to innovative engineering solutions, and play a key role in delivering complex projects from concept through operation.
