Job summary

Harris American is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the drafting and design of new and existing products. The role involves creating detailed 2D/3D designs, developing production-ready documentation, and collaborating with Designers and Engineers across projects.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Mechanical Engineering, 3+ years in engineering, and experience with Solid Edge; SolidWorks is a plus. Responsibilities include interfacing with clients and driving corrective actions in design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in an engineering role.
  • FEA experience is a plus.
  • Solid Edge experience is a must; SolidWorks experience is a plus.
  • Proven experience working with 3D design/drafting.

Responsibilities

  • Generate detailed designs and drawings, concepts, and new product mechanisms in 2D and 3D.
  • Develop the required documentation during development and for transfer to production (models, detail drawings, diagrams, BOM, assembly procedures).
  • Interface with the client on various projects as needed.
  • Communicate job requirements and design intent to others on operation of systems.
  • Ensure corrective actions for mechanical design issues are addressed and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Participate in Lean manufacturing meetings and safety meetings.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for drafting/design function for the development of new and existing products as well as providing technical support to other areas of the company. The Mechanical Engineer will have comprehensive knowledge of engineering processes and practices.

Essential Functions:
  • Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Work in conjunction with Designers and Engineers to help develop all aspects of a project.
  • Generate detailed designs and drawings, concepts, and new product mechanisms in both 2D and 3D.
  • Resolve design/drawing issues in order to meet required goals.
  • Develop the required documentation during development and for transfer to production (models, detail drawings,
  • diagrams, BOM, assembly procedures, etc.).
  • Generate meticulous, detailed, and thorough documentation and reports.
  • Interface with the client as need on various projects.
  • Communicate job requirements and design intent to others on operation of systems.
  • Ensure corrective actions for mechanical design issues are addressed appropriately and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Participate in company safety meetings and safety awareness as well as Lean manufacturing meetings.
  • Perform work in accordance with Harris American Company policies and procedures.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. May be exposed to dust, fluctuation in inside temperatures and electro-magnetic radiation as in a computer screen.

The employee will occasionally be required to walk through the warehouse while wearing safety gear, such as eye protection, ear plugs, and foot protection. This environment may include loud noises, flashing lights, and strong odors.

Qualifications and Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in an engineering role required.
  • FEA (finite element analysis) experience a plus.
  • Solid Edge experience a must; SolidWorks experience a plus.
  • Proven experience working with 3D design/drafting required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

The successful candidate should:

  • Exhibit strong analytical, mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Have good organizational skills and be a self-starter.
  • Be able to communicate clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Work well within a team environment.
  • Have the ability to work with little to no supervision.
