Job summary

ASR Group, the world’s largest refiner of cane sugar, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide engineering support to the maintenance department at our Maryland refinery. The role focuses on improving equipment reliability, operating efficiency, safety, and service quality across the plant.

Qualifications

  • Experience in plant maintenance, GMP compliance and continuous improvement.

  • Proficient with SAP and AutoCAD; basic MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Support maintenance team and Engineering Manager in activities.
  • Oversee major maintenance program including budget, schedule.
  • Plan and execute capital projects for maintenance and plant initiatives.
  • Direct development, execution, and completion of maintenance activities from concept to procurement and construction.
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems and develop repair scopes and drawings.
  • Maintain equipment files and order spare parts.
  • Supervise maintenance staff and contractors during weekend shutdowns.
  • Maintain safety, food safety and quality standards in maintenance activities.
  • Identify issues and implement improvement plans to achieve plant goals.

OVERVIEW

The Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering support to the maintenance department to help improve equipment reliability, operating efficiency, safety and service quality to the refinery.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the maintenance team through execution of engineering activities as directed by the Engineering Manager
  • Oversee the major maintenance program including budget, schedule and execution
  • Recommend, plan, develop and execute capital projects to support maintenance, powerhouse, and plant initiatives
  • Plan and direct the development, execution, and completion of maintenance activities including concept development, detailed engineering design, scheduling, procurement and construction
  • Assist in trouble shooting problems, diagnosing and recommending repairs, develop repair scopes, create design and fabrication drawings
  • Maintain and update equipment files and records. Set up and order spare parts
  • Supervise maintenance employees and contractors during weekend maintenance shut downs and as otherwise needed in the completion of maintenance activities
  • Help maintain performance standards for maintenance department and monitor efficiency, while maintaining reliability and safety standards
  • Identify issues and implement improvement plans and initiatives to achieve department and plant goals
  • Ensure compliance with all standards and requirements for safety, food safety and quality as they pertain to the maintenance department
SKILLS
  • Demonstrated experience and skills with plant maintenance, food safety and GMP, problem solving and continuous improvement techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, SAP and AutoCAD
WORK EXPERIENCES
  • 5 years of experience, including supervision, in maintenance and engineering in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience required with the following equipment: belt conveyors, screw conveyors, bucket elevators and cranes, and process equipment: evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers, piping, pumps, motors, rotary dryers, kilns and vacuum pans
  • Experience with the development and design of process and instrument diagrams
  • Basic electrical, instrumentation and process control experience
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college and/or university OR a minimum of ten years of maintenance technician experience in an industrial setting or equivalent military training

LOCATION OF ROLE

SALARY PAY RANGE:$63,500 - $105,500

  • The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.
  • Benefits include healthcare (medical, dental, vision, prescription drugs) available the first of the month following 30 days of employment, 401(k) with match, life insurance, AD&D, short-term disability, vacation, holiday and sick time.
