Job summary

SSOE Group in Austin, Texas, is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our Advanced Technology division. You'll design state-of-the-art industrial and high-tech manufacturing facilities, collaborating with fellow engineers, designers, and Sr.

Project Managers to deliver robust, compliant systems on schedule. You'll apply modern design techniques, leverage AutoCAD and related tools, and participate in multi-discipline reviews.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Active PE license or ability to obtain licensure quickly is highly desired.
  • Min 4 years of mechanical system design experience using AutoCAD.
  • Experience with AutoCAD; Revit, Navisworks, PIPE-FLO a plus.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, chillers, boilers, pump hydraulics, wastewater discharge or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, NFPA codes and state/local building codes.
  • Ability to work within quality management and change control processes.
  • Strong written and oral communication to project managers and cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed engineering designs, specifications, drawings, and models meeting client needs.
  • Develop designs for industrial and domestic piping, HVAC, and building systems.
  • Perform mechanical calculations for load, pump curves, pressure drop, and energy use.
  • Adhere to design CAD standards and perform quality control.
  • Collaborate with design team, engineers, PMs, and stakeholders on objectives.
  • Lead design reviews and ensure milestones and risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for integrated package design.
  • Conduct field verifications and assist in on-site problem solving.
  • Manage inquiries, submittals, and RFIs with contractors and vendors.

SSOE is looking to hire a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will have the opportunity to participate in the design of state-of-the-art industrial and high-tech manufacturing facilities for the world’s leading high-tech companies. Our Mechanical Engineers will be responsible for working with other contributing Mechanical Engineers, Designers team, and Sr. Project Managers to create and problem-solve exciting and complex designs that incorporate some of the latest design techniques, while ensuring that all specifications are met, and to ensure timely completion of projects.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for producing detailed engineering designs, technical project plans, specifications, drawings, and models that meet our specifications and client needs.
  • Responsible for creating, influencing, and finalizing designs involving industrial and domestic piping, plumbing, chillers, boilers, HVAC ducting, exhaust, motor control, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, Fire Protection systems and possibly other mechanical building systems.
  • Perform detailed mechanical system calculations including load analysis, pump head curves, pressure drop, and energy consumption to optimize system performance and support design decisions.
  • Applies standard engineering techniques and procedures and exercising judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications to design concepts. Ensure quality control by complying with company and team design and CAD standards.
  • Will work with the design team, other Engineers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders on specific assigned objectives, complex features, and aid in deriving possible solutions to unusual problems.
  • Facilitate internal and external design review meetings, ensuring all deliverables meet quality assurance standards and project milestones, while mitigating risks related to design errors or omissions.
  • Coordinate needs, designs, and develops an understanding with other design disciplines (Electrical, Structural, Process/Chemical, Architectural, etc.) for design package needs.
  • Perform field verifications / site walks to identify, verify, resolve, and incorporate solutions into design packages when needed. May troubleshoot design problems in the field during construction.
  • Manage technical inquiries, submittal reviews, and RFI responses from contractors and vendors, maintaining rigorous version control and supporting contractor coordination during procurement and installation phases.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree from an ABET-accredited school in Mechanical Engineering or technically related discipline.
  • An active Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure quickly is highly desired.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in mechanical system design utilizing AutoCAD as the primary drafting tool.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD is required. Experience with Revit, Navisworks, PIPE-FLO or similar hydraulic modeling software is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience with designs containing HVAC, chillers, boilers, pump hydraulics, exhaust, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, or other similar mechanical building systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASHRAE standards, NFPA codes for mechanical systems, and familiarity with applicable state/local building codes.
  • Proven capacity to work under structured quality management and change control processes in complex project environments.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information and design concepts to project managers, contractors, and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000/year depending on location, education, depth of relevant experience, and any specialized licensure/certifications. Opportunity for ample rewards, leadership incentive components, and generous bonus opportunities.
