Job summary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or related experience.
  • Basic proficiency in blueprint reading.
  • Familiarity with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Fluent in setup of simple parts and use of basic inspection equipment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication of issues and actions.
  • Contribute to primary inspection areas after training.
  • Communicate with supervision on problems and corrective actions.
  • Participate in 5S workplace organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and review inspection data to ensure component integrity and resolve discrepancies.
  • Locate programs, load components, run basic inspection programs, and report results.
  • Identify features for inspection and assign dimensional values and tolerances.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality.
  • May work in other functional areas or facilities as needed.

Position Summary:

The Mechanical/Dimensional Inspector I, Machining Quality is responsible for the performance of routine mechanical inspections per the technical documentation provided using pre-trained/determined methods to determine product acceptability.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect and review inspection data to ensure component integrity and investigate/resolve discrepancies found during part inspection.
  • Locate appropriate programs, load components into inspection equipment, run basic inspection programs, and report results.
  • Identify features for inspection and correctly assign dimensional values and tolerances specified in print to a given feature.
  • Regular on-site attendance/punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic proficiency in blueprint reading.
  • Familiarity with and basic understanding of GD&T symbology assigned per ASME Y14.5.
  • Fluent in setup of simple parts and understanding of proper use of basic mechanical inspection equipment.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Expected to contribute in primary areas of inspection for which training has been provided.
  • Communicate effectively to supervision verbally and in written format regarding problems and corrective action.
  • Participate in 5S workplace organizational activities and maintain work area in accordance with 5S standard.

Working Conditions:

  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
