Job summary

Vapor Power International, LLC, a Thermon subsidiary, seeks a Mechanical Designer in Franklin Park, IL to design layouts for mechanical and electrical systems, develop drawings in Inventor, and create boiler-related components.

You will read drawings, work with other engineers, ensure compliance with ASME/NEC, and support manufacturing to improve processes. Travel to trade shows and sites may be required; a high school diploma and 2–5 years' experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2–5 years of mechanical designer experience.
• Experience with boilers and pressure vessels is a plus.
• Strong ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Proficient with Inventor and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Designs and develops layouts for mechanical and electrical systems.
• Assists in the production of detailed mechanical drawings and schematics in Inventor.
• Creates or modifies designs for boilers and pressure vessels to meet customer requirements.
• Develops drawings and Bill of Materials.
• Works with other designers, code inspectors, and quality assurance personnel.
• Produces designs that comply with ASME and NEC codes, safety and standards.
• Assists manufacturing and other departments to improve processes and productivity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Designs and develops layouts for mechanical and electrical systems.
• Assists in the production of detailed mechanical drawing and schematics in Inventor.
• Creates and/or modifies designs for boilers and pressure vessels to meet customer requirements.
• Develops drawings and Bill of Materials.
• Works with other designers, code inspectors, and quality assurance personnel involved in designing products.
• Produce designs which comply with engineering principles, ASME and NEC code, safety, and customer requirements, as well as company standards.
• Assist other departments such as marketing in developing new products or options.
• Assist manufacturing by helping to improve process, reduce scrap and improve productivity.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 2 to 5 years of mechanical designer experience
• 2 years Inventor experience preferred.
• Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude
• Pressure vessel or boiler industry experience a plus.
• Experience with boilers, valve sizing, pump sizing.
• Experience with boiler controls and controls methodology.
• Experience with schematics and Ladder logic.
• Ability to read all applicable drawings, including mechanical, electrical schematics and instrumentation.

Skills and Abilities:

• Expertise and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Projects, and Access, etc.
• Proficient with Inventor for creating and editing drawings.
• ASME pressure vessel controls and code experience a plus
• Knowledge of PLC capabilities a plus

Physical Demands:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to regularly travel to trade shows and manufacturing locations.

Work Environment:

This position must perform tasks that involve mainly office exposure, sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer. Most of their time, the employee will spend time in the office with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environment, other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 15 pounds. Steel toe shoes, earplugs and safety glasses are always required while on the production floor.
