This Mechanical Designer role focuses on producing clear, build-ready product definition that manufacturing teams can execute with confidence. Success is measured by the quality and accuracy of NX models and drawings, correct and consistent GD&T application, and proactive management of tolerance stack-ups to ensure parts assemble and function as intended. You will work from engineering inputs through released documentation while maintaining configuration control in a Teamcenter-managed environment.
Responsibilities
- Create and release high-quality assembly drawings and single-part drawings that fully define components for manufacturing and inspection.
- Develop 3D CAD models in Siemens NX that support downstream needs such as fabrication, assembly, tooling, and quality verification.
- Apply GD&T per ANSI Y14.5 to establish functional requirements, clearances, and fits, and ensure drawings are unambiguous and inspectable.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to evaluate variation risk and drive design adjustments that improve fit, function, and manufacturability.
- Manage CAD data, revisions, and releases in Siemens NX with Teamcenter, maintaining traceability and configuration integrity.
- Produce product definition in a linked model environment, including 2D cross-sections, 2D drawings, and reusable 3D model features as needed.
- Partner with engineering and supply chain stakeholders to confirm interface agreements between mating components and resolve dimensional constraints.
- Drive drawing and model updates through change cycles, ensuring documentation stays aligned to current design intent and build requirements.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in a mechanical design, product definition, or CAD-focused role.
- Non-negotiable Siemens NX CAD (formerly Unigraphics) experience delivering production-ready models and drawings.
- Experience working in Siemens NX with Teamcenter for data management, revision control, and release processes.
- Proficiency in GD&T (ANSI Y14.5), including the ability to complete a GD&T drawing test as part of candidate submittal.
- Demonstrated experience producing high-quality assembly drawings and single-part drawings that define components for manufacturing/build.
- Strong understanding of tolerance stack-ups and the impact of variation on component and assembly fit, function, and manufacturability.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with welding and additive manufacturing/3D printing workflows.
- Background in mechanical routing and packaging within constrained assemblies.
- Automotive interior or exterior design experience, including complex models and A-side/B-side surface considerations.
- Exposure to hardware design and common manufacturing methods such as injection molding and forgings.
- Experience with 3D printing software such as EOSPRINT, Concept Laser WRX, or equivalent tools.
Familiarity with DMLM printing machines and related constraints on design and documentation.
Experience with NX Surfacing and building robust surface models that support downstream definition.
Willingness and ability to travel periodically for onsite design reviews or build support as needed.
Experience with model meshing and analysis to support design decisions and manufacturability.
Competency with Microsoft Office tools for documentation, reviews, and basic analysis.
Associate’s degree in a drafting-related field or equivalent hands‑on product definition experience.
Experience creating product definition in a linked model environment, including 2D cross-sections, 2D drawings, and 3D reusable models.
