Job summary

Lutron Electronics’ Mechanical Designer position in Austin, TX invites a collaborative designer to contribute to the design, development, and support of innovative products. You will join our engineering team and help bring concepts to reality while supporting existing products.

The role requires Creo proficiency, hands-on prototyping, documentation support, and cross‑functional collaboration with manufacturing and quality.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelors in Drafting, Mechanical Design, or related field.
• Minimum GPA 3.00.
• Minimum 2 years of product design/development experience.
• Pro/E Creo proficiency; MS Word and Excel.
• Advanced Excel skills are a plus.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes (injection molding, stamping, extrusions).
• Willingness to travel between local facilities.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Model custom mechanical parts, assemblies, and tools in Creo.
• Perform hands-on tasks such as prototype building and validation testing.
• Prototype and implement design tweaks to improve assembly.
• Source prototype components using 3D printers or vendors.
• Support documentation and part specifications for products.
• Part verification and tolerance stack analysis.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities in parallel.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams on part changes.

Overview

Lutron has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Designer at our Engineering office in Austin TX. In this role, you will be an integral member of our Engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and support of innovative products. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem solver who thrives in a team environment and is passionate about supporting existing products while helping bring new product designs from concept to reality.

Responsibilities

• Modelingof custom mechanical parts, assemblies, and toolsin Creo
• Perform hands-on tasks such prototype buildingand validation testing
• Prototype and implement design tweaks to improve design quality and facilitate easier assembly
• Source prototype components using our 3D printers, from our in-house machine shop or nearby vendors
• Support documentation and part specification for existing and new products
• Part verification and documentation of assembly tolerance stack analysis
• Multi task at a high level; manage multiple projects and priorities in parallel
• Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to gain consensus on part changes

Qualifications

• Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architecture, or related field required
• Minimum cumulative 3.00 GPA required
• Minimum 2 years of work experience that includes product design / development required
• Computer skills required: General (MS Word and Excel), Pro/E - Creo proficiency
• Advanced Excel skills are a plus.
• Familiarity with project management processes and meeting customer order commitments preferred
• Familiarity and hands-on experience with various part manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, sheet metal stamping, and aluminum and plastic extrusions preferred
• Travel between local facilities required
