Job summary

Lutron Electronics is seeking a Mechanical Designer for its Engineering office in Austin, TX. You will contribute to the design, development, and support of innovative products, taking ideas from concept to reality.

Responsibilities include Creo-based modeling of parts and assemblies, hands-on prototyping, tolerance analysis, and close collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams. A bachelor's or associate degree and at least 2 years of design experience are required.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architecture, or related field.
• Minimum 3.00 GPA.
• Minimum 2 years of work experience in product design/development.
• Proficiency with Pro/E/Creo; MS Word and Excel skills.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes (injection molding, sheet metal, extrusions).
• Willingness to travel to local facilities; authorized to work in the U.S.; no visa sponsorship required.

Responsibilities

• Model custom mechanical parts, assemblies, and tools in Creo.
• Perform hands-on prototype building and validation testing.
• Prototype and implement design tweaks to improve quality and ease of assembly.
• Source prototype components using 3D printers.
• Support documentation and part specification for existing/new products.
• Part verification and documentation of tolerance stack analysis.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.

Lutron has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Designer at our Engineering office in Austin TX. In this role, you will be an integral member of our Engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and support of innovative products. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem solver who thrives in a team environment and is passionate about supporting existing products while helping bring new product designs from concept to reality.

Responsibilities

• Modeling of custom mechanical parts, assemblies, and tools in Creo


• Perform hands-on tasks such prototype building and validation testing


• Prototype and implement design tweaks to improve design quality and facilitate easier assembly


• Source prototype components using our 3D printers, from our in-house machine shop or nearby vendors


• Support documentation and part specification for existing and new products


• Part verification and documentation of assembly tolerance stack analysis


• Multi task at a high level; manage multiple projects and priorities in parallel


• Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to gain consensus on part changes

Qualifications

• Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architecture, or related field required


• Minimum cumulative 3.00 GPA required


• Minimum 2 years of work experience that includes product design / development required


• Computer skills required: General (MS Word and Excel), Pro/E - Creo proficiency




• Advanced Excel skills are a plus.




• Familiarity with project management processes and meeting customer order commitments preferred


• Familiarity and hands-on experience with various part manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, sheet metal stamping, and aluminum and plastic extrusions preferred


• Travel between local facilities required
