Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern to support new product development and existing product sustenance.

You will collaborate with CAD designers on models and documentation, process ECOs, and apply mechanical engineering principles to predict stresses and improve designs. This internship offers hands-on experience in aerospace/defense environments and exposure to engineering change management.

Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked, and have every other Friday off

Job Description:

• Provide mechanical engineering support for both new product development activities as well as factory support of existing products
• Work directly with mechanical designers on CAD models and part documentation
• Generate and/or process engineering change orders (ECO’s) as required

Qualifications:

• Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science Engineering or related field at an accredited university.

Preferred Skills:

• CAD or analysis (FEA) tools exposure, and/or experience in mechanical design or analysis of electronic systems, structures and mechanisms
• Must be able to apply the principles of Structural Mechanics to predict internal stresses and structural instabilities
• Familiarity with finite element methods and fatigue
• Familiarity with finite element methods and fatigue and damage tolerance principles
