Job summary

PACCAR is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for Product Development in Kirkland, WA. You will develop design concepts using Creo and lead integration of powertrain and cooling systems into medium and heavy-duty trucks.

The role emphasizes collaboration with software teams for embedded controls and driving supplier activities while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • BSME or equivalent engineering degree required; Master's Degree and PE license preferred.
  • 1-3+ years of relevant experience is required.
  • Passion for commercial vehicle powertrains and electrified drivetrains.
  • Engine, cooling, and transmission system knowledge is preferred.
  • Demonstrated CAD / 3D Modeling experience; Creo preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Creo software to develop design concepts and package components within the vehicle environment.
  • Define requirements for, evaluate, design, and select powertrain and cooling systems appropriate for medium and heavy duty trucks
  • Define integration requirements and lead the implementation into medium and heavy duty trucks
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams to define and validate embedded system controls
  • Lead and track activities of component suppliers; define schedules, track progress, and drive suppliers to meet program milestones
  • Communicate design and project status to team and stakeholders on a regular basis and facilitate technology transfer between PACCAR divisions

Qualifications / Skills

  • BSME or equivalent engineering degree required; Master's Degree and PE license preferred
  • 1-3+ years of relevant experience is required
  • Passion and interest in working on commercial vehicle powertrains, including next generation electrified drivetrains and vehicles
  • Overall product knowledge required; engine, cooling, and transmission system experience preferred
  • Demonstrated prior design experience; project management, and/or design lead experience preferred
  • Experience working within a gated product creation process desired
  • Demonstrated CAD / 3D Modeling experience; Creo preferred
  • Experience with system-level requirements development, component selection, integration, performance, and validation
  • Previously demonstrated resourcefulness, strong technical knowledge, analytical capability, and communication skills.
  • Self-directed with excellent analysis and engineering judgement
  • Collaborative nature, fosters a sense of team across groups and cultures
  • Demonstrated high levels of initiative and innovation
  • Ability to perform in a fast-pace, results-oriented environment, while managing multiple priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Up to 10% travel possible
