Type One Energy Group, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer focused on plasma diagnostics to translate design requirements into functional systems for a fusion energy mission.

You will develop CAD and finite element models, perform analyses, and collaborate with engineers and scientists to optimize performance while balancing manufacturability and reliability. This is a permanent, full-time role with a hybrid work policy and generous benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience with mechanical design, failure modes, and lifecycle reliability.
• Experience with CAD and engineering analysis software (e.g., ANSYS or COMSOL).

Responsibilities

• Translate design requirements into functional plasma diagnostics.
• Develop system and component designs and specifications for plasma diagnostics.

Your role in the mission:

Type One Energy are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with first of a kind design and integration skills, to translate design requirements into functional plasma diagnostics systems.

Responsibilities will also focus on complex concept design development and optimization, which may include developing/reviewing CAD and engineering drawings, performing engineering analysis, designing of experiments and performing laboratory testing and evaluation, design reviews and TRL assessments. Other responsibilities include:

• Translating design requirements into functional plasma diagnostics.
• Develop system and component designs and associated technical specifications for our plasma diagnostics.
• Design and develop CAD models and finite element models for plasma diagnostics.
• Collaborate with engineers, scientists, designers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.
• Align and advise any interface requirements related to plasma diagnostics.
• Analyze and align the interface requirements between and among stellarator systems.
• Analyze and interpret simulation results to deliver actionable insights for design optimization and performance improvement.
• Resole any technical questions which may occur during the fabrication efforts.
• Work closely with a team of Engineers and Scientists.

What you’ll need:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, Master’s degree is preferred.
• Skilled in mechanical design principles, failure modes, and lifecycle reliability.
• Demonstrated experience in engineering analysis using software's such as ANSYS or COMSOL
• Skilled in balancing trade-offs across performance, manufacturability, and regulation.
• Experience with design of first of a kind components.
• Familiarity with Computer Aided Design and Analysis software
• Experience with design of fusion energy systems and equipment is desirable
• Experience with Siemens NX CAD software is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with plasma diagnostics is desirable
• Experience operating within a PDM environment in CAD
