Job summary

Applied Carbon seeks a Mechanical Engineer with strong SolidWorks design experience to own subassemblies from concept through production drawings. You will create 3D models, fabrication drawings, and BOMs while coordinating with fabricators and vendors for reliable, high‑temperature equipment.

The role requires a degree in mechanical engineering and proven expertise in sheet metal, weldments, and PDM revision control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hands‑on design experience
• Proficient in SolidWorks: 5+ years of professional use, including complex assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, and drawing creation
• Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication drawings and knowledge of fabrication processes
• Experience in thermal/high‑temperature systems, mobile or trailer‑mounted equipment, or heavy equipment
• Welding/weldment design experience and ability to communicate with fabricators
• Knowledge of weld symbols, joint design, and distortion control
• Experience with stainless steels in high‑temperature service (316/310)
• Experience with revision control (PDM) and willingness to administer it
• Ability to work from incomplete specifications and make sound engineering decisions
• Clear communication and ability to present technical work under pressure
• Self‑motivated and able to run several projects simultaneously

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings from concepts and specifications
• Generate shop and fabrication drawings with sheets and weldments
• Produce assembly and maintenance instructions with torque specs and lubrication points
• Manage large multi‑component assemblies and integrate subsystems
• Create and maintain BOMs and the SolidWorks materials library
• Own revision control and support PDM administration
• Inspect drawings for accuracy before fabrication release
• Design for high temperature and thermal duty with suitable materials
• Prepare drawings for RFQs and coordinate with fabricators and vendors
• Support rapid design iteration in a startup environment
• Present design solutions in design reviews to the team and customers
