Job summary

DMC Engineering in Chicago Hybrid is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead design efforts and develop mechanical systems across automation, test, and embedded hardware projects from concept to commissioning.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and customers, mentor teammates, and help advance DMC’s engineering standards, tools, and best practices while delivering practical, high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field, GPA 3.4+.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Ability to read electrical schematics.
• Experience designing CNC components, sheet metal, weldments, and frames.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations for material strength and power transmission.

Responsibilities

• Executes mechanical design for multidisciplinary projects ensuring designs are robust, functional, and cost effective.
• Researches and reviews COTS and custom system components against project budget and system functional requirements.
• Works effectively under project schedules and budgets.
• Partners with customers and cross functional teams to define requirements, develop designs, and support implementation.
• Maintains and promote engineering standards and best practices.
• Improves documentation, drawings, BOM structure, and revision control

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at DMC, you will lead design efforts and develop mechanical systems across a variety of automation, test, and embedded hardware projects, from concept through integration and commissioning. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and customers, you will deliver practical, high-quality solutions and help advance DMC’s mechanical engineering standards, tools, and best practices. Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field (minimum GPA 3.4)
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
• Experience designing custom CNC components, sheet metal, weldments, and frames
• Ability to perform engineering calculations for material strength and power transmission
• Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks preferred), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
• Up to 25% travel

Compensation

Starting compensation is based on industry, relevant experience and location standards.

• Engineer Levels II & III (3-5 years relevant experience): $95,000 - $115,000
• Engineering Levels III & Above (5-10 years relevant experience): $115,000 - $165,000+
