Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer — Data Centers & Mission-Critical Facilities (Remote)
Design mechanical systems for facilities that can't afford downtime.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Critical Facility Group, you'll design mechanical systems for data centers and other mission-critical facilities, taking projects from early concept through construction. You'll perform hands-on design work — load calculations, CFD modeling, Revit modeling, and equipment selection — and coordinate closely with electrical, architectural, and structural teams on the same project.

You'll also see your designs move into the field. You'll review contractor submittals and RFIs, participate in site visits and construction inspections, and work directly with project teams to resolve issues as things get built.

The Opportunity

This role fits an engineer who already has mechanical design experience and is ready to take on more responsibility, whether or not they've worked specifically on data centers before. You'll be involved throughout a project's life — not just producing one section of a drawing set — and get to see how your designs are coordinated, constructed, and ultimately operate in the field.

What You'll Do
  • Design mechanical systems for building construction, including HVAC and cooling systems specific to critical facilities
  • Perform load calculations and build CFD models to validate design decisions
  • Create 3D models and construction documents in Revit and AutoCAD
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and proposed change orders
  • Conduct site visits and inspections during construction, including preparing punch lists and representing the owner on-site
  • Prepare technical reports and presentation drawings, and present both internally and to clients
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, architectural, structural, and other project disciplines
  • Manage engineering design projects from concept through completion
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with project management
  • Proficiency in Revit; hands-on AutoCAD experience
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and design standards
  • Strong analytical skills and effective communication with project teams
  • Experience in facilities or data centers is a plus, not a requirement
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus — we support engineers working toward licensure
Why Critical Facility Group

We're a remote-first team, and the people on it bring years of experience in data center design, construction, and operations. You'll work on mechanical systems for facilities where reliability and long-term operation are genuinely critical, on projects ranging from ground-up builds to work inside live, operating environments. As you take on more complex work, you'll have real opportunities to grow toward licensure and leadership.

Critical Facility Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.
