Job summary

MRL Equipment Co. in Billings, MT is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and refine portable equipment used in pavement marking and related technologies.

You will develop layouts, run calculations, and support prototypes to ensure reliable product performance. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3–5 years of engineering experience, with SolidWorks proficiency and knowledge of manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• 3–5 years of engineering experience; mobile equipment applications are a plus.
• SolidWorks experience and proficiency is required.
• AutoCAD experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations; Lean Manufacturing principles are a plus.
• Working in a Manufacturing environment is a plus.
• General application of standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques within the field of specialization.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop layout concepts, parameters, and designs for new and existing product redesigns.
• Perform calculations and evaluations using mathematics, statistics, dynamics and other engineering disciplines.
• Conduct feasibility studies and prepare preliminary cost estimates of designs.
• Communicate with vendors to develop component specifications and draft customer instruction sheets.
• Assist in fabricating prototypes and support vendor selection.
• Evaluate product designs to ensure engineering standards are met.
• Summarize R&D work in reports and specifications.
• Develop engineering specifications for materials or processes.
• Assist in creating work instructions conveying design intent to assembly.
• Coordinate project progress by monitoring designers, drafters, and staff.
