Job summary

ZEISS seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and build fixtures and mechanical components supporting ZEISS solutions. You will analyze cross-functional needs, develop prototypes, and apply manufacturing methods to deliver cost-effective end items.

The role requires SolidWorks proficiency, GD&T knowledge, and 3D CAD documentation. Hybrid work at the Wixom, MI facility with up to 30% travel and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent work experience.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and in creating design documentation.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Experience with fixture design and mechanical parts.
• Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and build part holding fixtures to support ZEISS solutions.
• Develop prototypes using in-house additive manufacturing or external vendors.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Automation, and Sales to define required fixtures.
• Create and maintain CAD design documentation and best practices.
• Contribute to scope of work and design reviews for fixtures and tooling.

Location/Region: This is a hybrid role located in our facility in Wixom, MI.

What's the role?

Collaborate with Application Engineers, Field Application Engineers, Automation team, and Sales teams to facilitate the design and creation of fixturing and other mechanical components to support our ZEISS solutions to our customers.

Here's what you'll do:

• Gain knowledge in ZEISS solutions and principles to design and build part holding fixture to meet project requirements.
• Analyze Engineering, Automation, and Sales teams to define and design required fixtures and components and develop detailed designs and drawings in support of new product development and existing product support.
• Develop, design, and build prototypes to evaluate design concepts utilizing in-house additive manufacturing system or outside vendors.
• Utilize Design for Manufacturing methodologies to produce cost effective end items.
• Develop CAD best practices across engineering team and creates/updates database of design functions for future reference.
• Develops customer and internal engineering scope of work and solution design reviews to understand and create requited fixturing, tooling and components.
• Adheres to "Good Manufacturing Practices" and other standards as required.
• Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of CAD models, parts, and skill using SolidWorks (or similar software) and proficiency in designing mechanical parts and assemblies and creating appropriate design documentation.
• Strong working knowledge of common manufacturing operations, CAD standards, Geometric Dimensioning, & Tolerancing (GD&T), and mechanical tolerance stack-up analysis.
• General mechanical aptitude
