Job summary

NPSG Global in Sparks, NV is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II/III to create detailed designs for mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks. You will work with manufacturing to translate concepts into production-ready drawings and specifications, leading projects through phase gates while mentoring junior engineers.

The role requires strong problem-solving, blueprint reading, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in engineering.
• Broad knowledge of materials and fabrication processes.

• ASME Y14.5M-2009 knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

Description

The Mechanical Design Engineer II/III will create detailed designs and specifications for mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This role will work closely with the manufacturing floor, utilizing their expertise in engineering and mechanics to design, analyze, and improve/create drawings and products. Engineers at NPSG Global work in a collaborative, supportive, and fast-moving manufacturing environment where safety and quality are of the highest priority.

Responsibilities

• Experience performing in a multi-task, fast-paced environment with customers and team members to define and align project requirements.
• Bring fabricated metal, electromechanical assemblies and automation products from concept sketches to production with SolidWorks CAD tools.
• Lead the design of Engineering projects, CI projects, mechanisms, and components for quick turnaround prototyping and long-term production projects.
• Specify and integrate commercial-off-the-shelf components into semi-automated products.
• Meet delivery deadlines, project budget, and quality requirements while coordinating progress with project stakeholders.
• SolidWorks assembly, model and drawing creation, peer review, and document control in SolidWorks/PDM.
• Support production and deployment of new product introduction and equipment on launch.
• Supervise the production documentation by overseeing the Engineering Drafter’s work on your assigned engineering project.
• Create and oversee the phase-gate process for your assigned engineering project.
• Work cohesively with production floor work centers at both metal shops.
• Train less skilled engineers.
• Maintain 7S in the department.
• Obeying all company, OSHA, and other state and federal agencies’ safety regulations.

Education/Experience Specific to Engineer II

• 4-7 years in a mechanical engineering role.
• 4-7 years of experience utilizing SolidWorks/PDM software for fabrication design.
• Preference o4-7 years of mechanical design engineering role in an industrial, automation and/or machine building environment preferred.
• Preference of 4-7 years of experience designing weldments in CAD.
• Demonstrated talent and track record in sheet metal and tube fabricated products (4-7 years).

Education/Experience Specific to Engineer III

• 8+ years mechanical engineering role.
• 8+ years of experience utilizing SolidWorks/PDM software for fabrication design.
• Preference of 8+ years of mechanical design engineering role in an industrial, automation and/or machine building environment preferred.
• Preference of 8+ years of experience designing weldments in CAD.
• Demonstrated talent and track record in sheet metal and tube fabricated products (8+ years).

Education/Experience

• BS or higher in the engineering field or subject matter expert (SME) in engineering CAD.
• Broad knowledge of materials (HRS/CRS and SST, AL) and fabrication processes (laser and plasma cutting, bending, welding, powder coating and assembly, etc.).
• Experience with structural simulation and analysis.
• Preferred understanding of Dimensioning and Tolerancing, ASME Y14.5M-2009.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

• Manufacturing environment with intermittent noise and long periods of standing in a warehouse-type physical space, with exposure to noise and dust in hot and cold climates.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, bend, squat, twist, and kneel.
• Normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and normal hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).
• Must have good hand and eye coordination.
• Must wear steel-toed shoes.
