Job summary

Dynamics ATS is seeking a Project Engineer – Mechanical Design for our Rochester Hills automation team. You will design and develop custom automated machinery, tooling, and assembly systems from concept through manufacturing, installation, and customer acceptance.

The role demands a strong mechanical design background, extensive 3D CAD experience (CATIA preferred), and the ability to collaborate with PM, Controls, Manufacturing, and Assembly to meet budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of mechanical design experience in automation or tooling.
• Experience creating complete designs with 3D layouts and BOMs.
• Ability to lead designs from concept through testing and run-off.

Project Engineer – Custom Automation / Mechanical Design

An established automation and custom machine-building company with a facility in the Rochester Hills, MI area is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Mechanical Design for a position with their engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands‑on Project Engineer looking to work on the design and development of custom automated machinery, assembly systems, and tooling from initial concept through manufacturing, installation, and customer acceptance.

Qualified Project Engineer candidates will have a strong mechanical design background, experience with 3D CAD software, and the ability to develop complete custom automated machine designs while meeting project budgets and timelines.

Project Engineer compensation is anticipated to be based on each candidate's experience and education. All well‑qualified candidates will be considered regardless of salary expectations.

Qualified Project Engineers will have most, if not all, of the following skills and experience:

• 4+ years of recent/relevant experience in mechanical design, custom machine design, automation, tooling, or automated assembly equipment is preferred. Highly qualified candidates with less experience will also be considered.
• 3+ years of experience with 3D CAD software, preferably CATIA. Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar CAD platforms will also be considered.
• Experience designing complete custom automated machinery, including 3D layouts, mechanical assemblies, tooling, guarding, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Experience developing mechanical designs for automated assembly systems, special machinery, or industrial automation equipment.
• Ability to take mechanical designs from initial concept through detailed engineering, manufacturing, assembly, debug, and equipment run-off.
• Experience working directly with Project Management, Controls Engineering, Manufacturing, and Assembly teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ability to participate in engineering design reviews, incorporate technical feedback, and ensure designs meet project specifications, budgets, and timelines.
• Experience preparing and releasing manufacturing drawings, purchased components, and mechanical bills of materials is desirable.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, problem‑solving skills, organizational abilities, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field is beneficial but not specified as a requirement. Equivalent hands‑on mechanical design and automation experience will be strongly considered.
• Must be able to complete applicable standard pre‑hire checks, including background checks, drug screening, and references, as required by the employer.
