General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Systems Integration Group. Under supervision, you will analyze and resolve engineering problems of moderate scope using 3D CAD, drawings, and reports to support aircraft systems integration.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, validate interfaces, perform tests, document findings, and assist in production transitions while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Formación

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them in evolving environments.
  • Good communication, documentation and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance.

We have an exciting opportunity for a mechanical design engineer within the Systems Integration Group. Under general supervision and with regular review, this position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation and resolution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity. Assignments are normally accompanied by general instructions and suggestions, outlining possible approaches, sources or information, and potential problems to be encountered with work reviewed regularly for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. The candidate contributes to the completion of assigned engineering tasks by collecting relevant documentation, performing stress and modal analysis as a design aid, 3D Computer Aided Design, drafting of drawings, and creation of reports and project documentation. The candidate is expected to document findings and implemented solutions and communicate results to project engineering staff. Tasks involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance. Documents findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to engineering staff. Contacts are primarily internal with infrequent inter-organization or customer contact on routine matters. May provide direction to design or technician staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned engineering problems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the air vehicle to coordinate and validate interfaces of avionics and mission systems within aircraft.
  • Performs functional testing and troubleshooting of equipment and systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
  • Obtains and analyzes test data.
  • Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions. May be required to make technical presentations.
  • May provide direction to design and/or technical staff.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Supports tasks related to mechanical engineering and design of integrated systems into a wide range of platform products by evaluating, interpreting needs and developing effective approaches to resolving issues.
  • Utilizes 3D CAD software for conceptual and detail design solutions for secondary structures and system component layouts for unmanned aircraft.
  • Conducts analyses and simulations to validate designs against performance requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Prototypes, tests, iterates, and transitions design solutions to production.
  • Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to project engineering staff. May be required to make technical presentations and engineering design reviews to project staff.
  • Will assist in and verify aircraft integration or testing and validation of hardware and systems prior to aircraft integration, on-site as well as at Flight Operations facilities.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • An EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate is desirable.
  • Utilize 3D CAD modeling software to generate design solutions.
  • Use of Siemens NX, Teamcenter and Simcenter is highly desired.
  • Hands-on mechanical engineering knowledge and skills.
  • Able to collaborate with teams for prototype and production part manufacturing from machine and fabrication shops.
  • Able to understand with limited support testing including test planning, test execution, test results interpretation and documentation.
  • Understanding of drawing requirements with the ability to read and generate engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning principals. Understanding of Model Based Definition (MBD) is desired.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint is also required.
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance is required.

Job Type: Full-Time Salary

Salary range: 69,500 - 116,375
