Job summary

Barrios Technology seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to support NASA space exploration programs. You will design parts and assemblies using 3D CAD, create detailed drawings per ASME Y14.5, and perform tolerance, structural, and thermal analyses to ensure robust hardware.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering plus five years of related experience.
  • Experience designing parts and assemblies using 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Experience producing drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience applying tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T.
  • Experience with machine shop processes and rapid prototyping (3D printing).
  • Experience with both structural and thermal analysis of parts and assemblies.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Eligible for access to classified information.

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join Barrios, a teammate company for the Space Exploration Projects with the JETSII contract!

Responsibilities
  • Support NASA's future space exploration activities
  • Work in a team environment to analyze requirements and develop design solutions

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, plus five (5) years of related experience. License and certification may be required.
  • Experience designing parts and assemblies using 3D CAD modeling software
  • Experience producing drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5
  • Experience applying tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T
  • Experience with machine shop processes and rapid prototyping (3D printing)
  • Experience with both structural and thermal analysis of parts and assemblies
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills

Preferences:

  • Prior NASA (especially JSC) or aerospace development & manufacturing experience
  • Familiarity with JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (JPR 8500)
  • Familiarity with JSC Fabrication Tolerances and Practices (SKZ36103755)
  • Experience designing NASA flight hardware and creating drawings for NASA/JSC
  • Mechanisms or robotics design experience
  • Experience using PTC CREO or Pro/Engineer and related extensions such as Cabling, Piping, Sheetmetal and Simulation
  • Experience leading technical design teams and mentoring junior engineers
  • NASA or aerospace mechanical design experience

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
  • Generally, an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
