Job summary

Electro-Mechanical, LLC in Bristol, VA, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop mechanical components and systems for power distribution products, ensuring manufacturability, quality, and performance in a fast-paced production environment.

You will translate concepts into detailed drawings and BOMs, collaborate with senior engineers, production, and quality teams, and contribute to cost-reduction and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (two-year technical degree) in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting and Design, or a related field.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, drafting, or product development within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Solid Edge, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and mechanical tolerances.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, error-free drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly convey design concepts to engineers, shop personnel, and customers.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to design challenges.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or familiarity with electrical-mechanical integration is a plus.
  • Willingness to work overtime or adjust schedules as project demands require.

Responsibilities

  • Design and draft transformer components, enclosures, and assemblies using AutoCAD and Solid Edge, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and manufacturability.
  • Translate engineering concepts and customer requirements into detailed mechanical drawings, models, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers, production, and quality teams to resolve design challenges and ensure seamless handoff from design to manufacturing.
  • Participate in order reviews, cost analyses, and project planning to ensure designs meet technical, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Support the quote and order development process by preparing accurate design information and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review drawings and designs with senior and lead engineers before release, ensuring all safety, quality, and performance standards are met.
  • Interact daily with manufacturing teams to communicate design intent, support troubleshooting, and identify opportunities for process or product improvement.
  • Contribute to cost-reduction initiatives and continuous improvement projects that enhance product efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure timely completion of assigned jobs in alignment with master production schedules and department goals.
