Decima International is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Technician to support independent, third-party commissioning of mechanical systems on data center projects. Qualifications

• 5+ years of commissioning experience on mechanical systems.
• 2–3 years of data center project experience.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
• Experience using test instruments such as flow meters, pressure gauges, thermal imagers, and data loggers.
• Clear written and verbal communication; maintain accurate field documentation.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 training, or the ability to obtain it.
• Valid driver's license.
• Authorization to work in the United States and ability to pass background check and drug screen.
• Travel 50–75%, extended site assignments, lift 50 lbs, and wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Inspect delivered and installed mechanical equipment against drawings and submittals.
• Perform and witness pre-functional and static checks, including alignment, valve positions, piping flushing, pressure testing, and sensor verification.
• Support equipment start-up and Level 4 functional performance testing; record readings and results.
• Support Integrated Systems Testing including load testing and shift coverage.
• Document deficiencies with photos and descriptions; track corrective actions to closure.
• Complete checklists, test scripts, and daily reporting in the commissioning platform.
• Follow site safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and permit requirements.
• Maintain independent reporting per policy, without influence from contractors or suppliers.

We are seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Technician to support independent, third-party commissioning of mechanical systems on data center projects. Working under the direction of a Commissioning Engineer, you will perform, witness, and document field inspections and tests to verify that equipment is installed correctly and operates as designed.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on mechanical commissioning experience, strong documentation skills, and the ability to work safely with contractors and equipment vendors through inspections, functional testing, and Integrated Systems Testing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Inspect delivered and installed mechanical equipment, including chillers, heat rejection equipment, pumps, air handlers, computer room air handling (CRAH) units, coolant distribution units (CDUs), and piping against approved drawings and submittals.
• Perform and witness pre-functional and static checks, including equipment alignment, rotation, valve positions, piping flushing, pressure testing, and sensor and instrument verification.
• Support equipment start-up and Level 4 functional performance testing, accurately recording readings, setpoints, and results.
• Support Integrated Systems Testing, including failure scenarios, load testing, and shift coverage.
• Document deficiencies with photographs and clear descriptions and track corrective actions through closure with contractors.
• Complete checklists, test scripts, and daily reports in the commissioning platform.
• Follow site safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and applicable permit requirements.
• Maintain accurate and independent reporting in accordance with Decima's conflict-of-interest and independence policy, without influence from contractors or equipment suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of commissioning experience on mechanical systems.
• 2 to 3 years of experience on data center projects.
• Working knowledge of chilled water, air handling, and heat rejection systems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
• Experience using test instruments such as flow meters, pressure gauges, thermal imagers, and data loggers.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate field documentation.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 training, or the ability to obtain it.
• Valid driver's license.
• Authorization to work in the United States and ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Ability to travel 50-75%, work extended site assignments, lift 50 lbs, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with liquid cooling systems, including CDUs, secondary loops, and fluid flushing and filtration.
• Familiarity with building management systems and commissioning tracking platforms.
• Trade or technical certification, such as HVAC/R, pipefitting, or controls technician certification.
• Experience supporting Integrated Systems Testing in a live-load or high-density data center.

POSITION DETAILS:

Primary Location (On-site): Project sites across the United States.
Position: Mechanical Commissioning Technician.
Travel: 50-75%, including extended assignments of three weeks or more. Travel, lodging, and per diem are provided per company policy.
Site Rotation: Planned before each project; typically, two to three weeks on site and one week off site, subject to project requirements and delays.
Working Conditions: Active construction and data center environments, including work at heights, in mechanical and electrical rooms, and in hot or noisy areas.
