Job summary

Kiewit Industrial District seeks a Mechanical Commissioning Superintendent to lead safe, efficient turnover of large mechanical systems on major projects. You will direct pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, and handover, coordinating with engineering, construction, vendors, operations, and project leadership.

Ideal candidates have mechanical engineering background, proven leadership of craft teams, and hands-on commissioning experience in HVAC, piping, pumps, and rotating equipment;

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Experience in pre-commissioning and commissioning of large-scale mechanical systems.
  • Ability to lead craft teams through turnover, testing, and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with system readiness workflows in mechanical commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily safety meetings and ensure compliance with mechanical safety procedures.
  • Coordinate pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and start‑up of major mechanical systems (pumps, piping, HVAC).
  • Conduct system walk‑downs, identify deficiencies, and ensure readiness for testing and turnover.
  • Supervise functional testing including flushing, hydrotesting, alignment, and leak checks.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement corrective actions during commissioning.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and OEMs to meet readiness and performance requirements.
  • Track system progress and provide status updates to leadership.
  • Maintain commissioning documentation and turnover packages.

Position Overview

As a Mechanical Commissioning Superintendent, you will play a key leadership role in overseeing the safe, efficient, and high-quality commissioning of major mechanical systems on large industrial projects. This role is responsible for leading pre-commissioning, commissioning, functional testing, system readiness, and turnover activities while coordinating closely with engineering, construction, vendors, operations, and project leadership.

Travel Support

Responsibilities
  • Lead daily safety meetings and ensure full compliance with all mechanical safety procedures, including LOTO and permitting.
  • Coordinate and oversee pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and start‑up of major mechanical systems (pumps, piping, rotating equipment, HVAC, etc.).
  • Conduct system walk‑downs, identify deficiencies, and ensure systems are ready for testing and turnover.
  • Supervise and support functional testing, including flushing, hydrotesting, equipment alignment, leak checks, and mechanical run‑ins.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical system issues and implement corrective actions during commissioning.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and OEMs to meet system readiness and performance requirements.
  • Track system progress and provide clear status updates to commissioning and project leadership.
  • Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, including checklists, test records, redlines, and turnover packages.
Qualifications
  • Preferred degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent field experience.
  • Experience in pre‑commissioning and commissioning of large-scale mechanical systems, including HVAC, hydronic systems, process cooling, piping, pumps, rotating equipment, and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage craft teams through system turnover, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Familiarity with completions software and system readiness workflows used during mechanical commissioning.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and communication skills to effectively work across construction, engineering, vendors, OEMs, and commissioning teams to meet system readiness milestones.
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence, initiative, safety, ethics, and integrity.
  • Strong organization, time management, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or within a team to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.

  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
