Job summary

Bascom Hunter is seeking a Mechanical CAD Designer to design and develop advanced aerospace and defense systems using SolidWorks. You will create detailed 3D models and drawings for components and systems, while collaborating with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to integrate designs into overall architecture.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of experience in aerospace or defense, strong CAD proficiency, and knowledge of ASME and MIL-STD standards.

Qualifications

• Proven experience (5-10 years) as a Mechanical CAD Designer in aerospace/defense.
• Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks.
• Strong understanding of aerospace/defense engineering, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with ASME, MIL-STD and related regulations.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• CAD Design: Use SolidWorks to create detailed 3D models and drawings for aerospace/defense components.
• Collaboration: Work with engineers, PMs and stakeholders to integrate designs into system architecture.
• Design Optimization: Analyze and optimize designs for performance, weight, and manufacturability while meeting standards.
• Prototyping Support: Assist prototyping/testing teams during design transfers and modifications.
• Documentation: Create and maintain design specs, ECOs, and technical reports.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure designs meet quality, reliability and safety requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends and best practices in aerospace defense design processes.

We provide solutions to the Department of Defense (DoD) and Aerospace markets across various disciplines. Our BH Tech division currently provides products and services across four product lines: Advanced Systems, RF Front Ends, Mixed Signal and Digital Solutions.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a Mechanical CAD Designer who will play a key role in the design and development of advanced aerospace and defense systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, utilizing CAD software to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings for various components and systems.

Responsibilities:

• CAD Design: Utilize Solidworks to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings for aerospace and defense components and systems.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs into overall system architecture.
• Design Optimization: Conduct thorough analysis and optimization of mechanical designs to meet performance, weight, and manufacturing requirements while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Prototyping Support: Collaborate with the prototyping and testing teams to ensure the successful transition of designs from concept to physical prototypes, addressing any design challenges or modifications as needed.
• Documentation: Generate and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, engineering change orders, and technical reports.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure that all designs meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and safety, adhering to industry-specific regulations and customer requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in aerospace and defense engineering, contributing to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies.
