Job summary

Ivy H. Smith Company, LLC is seeking a Mechanic in Florida to maintain and repair our fleet of vehicles and equipment. You will diagnose failures, plan maintenance, and follow safety and regulatory standards to ensure reliable operation.

You’ll perform oil changes, brakes checks, tire rotations, and tests on vehicles and equipment while maintaining a clean, safe workspace. Prior fleet experience is preferred and you may need to supply standard tools.

Qualifications

• Requires at least 1 year of mechanic experience, preferably with fleet vehicles or commercial equipment.
• Proficient in diagnosing vehicle and equipment failures.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities

• Determine repair or maintenance plans based on cost/benefit analysis.
• Conduct diagnostics to troubleshoot failures in vehicles and equipment.
• Inspect and provide recommendations for proactive maintenance.
• Follow procedures for repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Dismantle, repair, and reassemble vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, brake inspections, and tire rotations.
• Ensure vehicles are clean and fueled; operate and test equipment to verify function.

What You’ll Do

• Determine repair or maintenance plans for vehicles and equipment based on cost/benefit analysis

• Follow work procedures for the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment
• Dismantle, repair, and reassemble vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment such as trackhoes, backhoes, and other specialized machinery
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, brake inspections, and tire rotations
• Ensure vehicles are clean and fueled at all times
• Operate and test vehicles and equipment to ensure proper functioning
• Maintain a clean and orderly workspace
• Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Need

• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
• Mechanics may be expected to provide their own standard tools. The shop will supply large-diameter and specialty tools as needed
• A minimum of 1 year experience as a mechanic, preferably with a focus on fleet vehicles or commercial equipment
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
• Proficient in diagnostic tools and equipment

Physical Abilities & Exposures

• Routinely: Climb stairs, lift between 26 and 55 pounds, bend, stoop, fine hand motion, squeeze, stand, use portable ladder, walk, work in confined spaces, work with arms above shoulder level, operate heavy machinery and vehicles
• Occasionally: use keyboard & mouse, lift greater than 55 pounds, work alone in remote locations, and at heights
