Job summary

Allan Myers, Inc. is seeking an equipment maintenance helper in Richmond, VA to support technicians with on-site repairs and diagnostics. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and timely upkeep of heavy construction equipment, including diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

Expect early mornings, possible weekends, and overtime. Qualified candidates will have at least 1 year of field repair experience, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist equipment technicians or service personnel with technical support by phone/email or on-site.
  • Develop quick and accurate communication with field personnel and dispatch.
  • Assure quality of repairs to minimize recall/duplicate work.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental and company safety policies.
  • Comply with Human Resources policies.
  • Review shop tool requirements to do work more efficiently.
  • Observe and report deficiencies to support PM program effectiveness.
  • Participate in technical training with dealers or manufacturers and share with others.
  • Coordinate with Field Services Dispatcher and parts personnel for on-time parts delivery.
  • Work daily with Internal Department, Field Managers and Superintendents.
  • This is an hourly position with overtime as needed.
  • Must have sufficient tools; the company does not provide standard tools.
  • Service Truck must be kept clean and orderly.
  • Adhere to Hours of Service (HOS) and Trimble/Telogis regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities

$3,000 Sign On Bonus Incentive

The primary objective of equipment maintenance is the repair and up-keep of production equipment; making sure to keep it in a safe, effective operating condition so that production and quality targets can be met on time and at cost.

  • Assist equipment technicians or service personnel with technical support. This will be accomplished by phone/email or directly at job site.
  • Develop quick and accurate communication with field personnel and dispatch.
  • Assure quality of repairs to minimize recall/duplicate work.
  • Assure compliance with all governmental and company safety polices.
  • Comply with Human Resources policies.
  • Review shop tool requirements to do work more efficiently.
  • Observe and report any deficiencies to forward our PM program for effectiveness and possible additions to our program.
  • Participate in technical training with dealer / manufacturer and as much as possible and pass on that training to other mechanics.
  • Work closely with our Field Services Dispatcher and our parts personnel to assure on time delivery of parts.
  • Work daily with Internal Department, Field Managers and Superintendents as well as Field Mechanics.
  • This position will be hourly and require overtime as needed.
  • Must have sufficient tools to do the job. The company does not provide industry Standard Tools.
  • Service Truck must be kept clean and orderly.
  • Responsible for staying within HOS (hours of service), if applicable
  • Responsible for complying with all Trimble/Telogis regulations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Hourly Range: $23.00 - $27.00, based on experience.

Qualifications

Experience & Education/Certification:

  • 1 year field experience repairing heavy construction equipment required.
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Must be knowledgeable with all components of heavy construction machinery including but not limited to diesel engines, power transmissions, hydrostatic drives, open and closed-circuit hydraulics as well as compensating systems.
  • Possess diagnostic capabilities with hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems on modern construction equipment.
  • Ability to make repair decisions quickly and rationally.
  • Expected to keep all sensitive material confidential.
  • Able to arrange schedules, recommend machinery to be down for repair as needed, and able to make parts orders.
  • Ability to give and receive written or oral instructions.
  • Must have ability to work independently and safely.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
  • Caterpillar Et/SIS, Volvo Prosis/tech tool, Cummins InSite knowledge/Experience.
  • Basic skills in OXY/Acetylene torch.
  • Basic Stick Welding 7018,6010.
